gday jono posted this thread for me as i had no credit....anyway....
i got 2 gu diffs and a gu steering box from wreckers to put in my gq .
problem 1; i think i have been given another gq box as the taper on pitman arm is from bottom to top not top to bottom ?? and pitman arm is a bit shorter as well
is the pitman arm the only difference in the steering boxes or did some gu come the same as gq?
NEXT QUESTION are the front control arms the same EXACTLY because my diff is now sitting forward more than it did before ,it has 10 mm spacers from my gq arms on it, but its about 30-50 mm forward
the bushes are seated correctly and i did measure the bolt/shank before i put spacer on , both were the same , so why is it so far forward now ??

i cant help you much with the arms but i did think they were the same???? Did you remove the old bush or is it still in there somewhere
The GU steering box should have 104 moulded in the casing, GQ boxes had 82 on them and the later ones 84 on them. If it doesnt have 104 on it then its not GU

radius arms are the same, i have a mixture of them as i have broken a couple.
my GU SB has 104 on it but it came from a wreckers who said it was a late GQ ??

ok the wreckers gave me a gq steer box then, i would appreciate some comments regarding the diff sitting fwd like it is i kind of like the increase in approach angle and guard clearance but im thinking its too far forward
and the spring is gunna want to bind up or pop out ! what do ya all think ?
thanks again
cheers

well if its to far forward cant you just get the gq arms and try them.
or give somebody like mick at superior a ring or even shane at suspension stuff and ask em. they will be able to give a straight out answer.
but im also under the impression they are both the same. they are definately standard arms?

gq arms are attatched to the diff still and the bushes are rooted
i just paid 250 for new 3 degree offset bushes in the gu arms cause they are the same , cant call anyone cause its the weekend , im gunna take the spacers out tomorrow and have another look i think but i do like the new approach angle as i said before . just got to get back on road asap or i lose money

Are the offset caster bushes offset all the way to the front. Looks like in the pic that the bushes are offset all the way facing forward.

They are the same arms so weird why it would be further forward. Mine has 12mm spacers and spring sits about the same angle as your pic and havent had any issues.

after looking at a mates with custom arms the spring is also on roughly the same angle and drives ok too but im still sceptical at this stage

has anybody else put spacers in and if so does the spring sit on an angle
now ?? how does it drive ?? im at the stage either pull it all apart again and remove spacers , or .......put it together as is and see how it drives
i guess . it still got me thinking WHY is it so far forward ?
cheers

I had spacers in my gq and they didn't set the diff that far forward but that was with gq diffs, I suppose I'll find out about the gu diff as I have set set to instal in the next few weeks.

My GU ute is angled like that without spacers and standard (non castor corrected) arms. 3in lift. Maybe not quite as far forward.
