Whatever suits your needs and your budget. There is no "best" of anything.
Patrrol/Cruiser
ARB/TJM
etc.......

But isn't road legal in Australia.

I'd run them on 8's with Beadlocks
Depends on how much you want to spend, you could buy something like Walker Evans at around $500-600 each
Or get some Rock crawler rims for $120 odd

8's are legal, but thats the widest you're allowed. 10s are illegal.

I think you've got the wrong end of the stick there cra3ed - 12.5's aren't legal on 8" rims (yes, really)
You are correct that 10's are unlikely to be legal on anyones car.
Probably not relevant though, as it's unlikely 37" treps are legal in any case, and if they're stickies they're not going to see much road use in any case.
I'd run Walker Evans, KMC or any other "made as a beadlock" alloy wheel.
They're all 17X9's, so perfect for a 12.5.
Steve.

8" rims are the widest some (all?) states allow as aftermarket fitment.
8.5" is the minimum
approved width for 33x12.5" tyres (i.e to be road legal) in Australia.
To sum up:
Most (that's MOST - not ALL
) vehicles running 33x12.5" tyres in Australia are NOT road legal.

There are a couple of tyre manufacturers that state fitment of their 33x12.5x15 on a 8" rim. I think MT and I can't recall the other.

It's an Australian industry thing. It doesn't matter what the manufacturer states, you must meet the Australian regulations too.

I have Mullins rims (imported by CSA) which have been fine for me (6 years and counting), but there were some cracking issues with some models on mine sites.
I guess they wouldn't be your FIRST choice.

the procomp rockcrawler series seem to be some of the stronger and higher quality steel rims available but they weigh a shitload.

25 TYRE AND RIM SELECTION
25.1 Tyres and rims recommended for passenger cars
must be listed in the Tyre and Rim Standards Manual
published by either the Tyre and Rim Association of
Australia, the (US) Tire and Rim Association Inc. Year
Book, the Japan Automobile Tire Manufacturers
Association Year Book, the Japanese Industrial Standards
(JIS-D4202) “Dimensions of Tires” and (JIS-D4218)
“Contours of Rims”, or the European Tyre and Rim
Technical Organisation (E.T.R.T.O.) Data Book.
25.1.1 The ‘Administrator’ may accept a tyre, ‘Rim’ or
tyre and ‘Rim’ combination not incorporated in the above
publications.
25.1.2 Manufacturers must not fit tyres that require a cold
inflation pressure greater than 825 kPa for radial ply tyres
and 700 kPa for other tyres to achieve the manufacturer’s
rated GVM.
25.2 Performance Requirements
25.2.1 All Vehicles Fitted with the New Light Truck or
Truck Tyres
The tyres fitted must comply with the technical
requirements of at least one of the following:
25.2.1.1 Australian Standard 2230-1979: “New Pneumatic
Highway Tyres other than Passenger Car Tyres” or 2230-
1990 “Pneumatic Tyres Light Truck and Truck/Bus-
New”.
25.2.1.2 (US) Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 119
– 1973; FR38-218: “New Pneumatic Tyres for Vehicles
other than Passenger Cars”.
25.2.1.3 ECE Regulation 54/00 – “Tyres for Commercial
Vehicles”; or
25.2.1.4 Japanese Industrial Standard JIS D4230-1986 –
“Tires for Automobiles”.
25.2.2 T-Group Vehicles Fitted with Retreaded Tyres
Retreaded tyres fitted to T-Group vehicles must comply
with the technical requirements of AS 1973-1993
“Pneumatic Tyres – Passenger Car, Light Truck and
Truck/Bus – Retreading and Repair Process”.
25.3 Requirements for L-Group Vehicles
25.3.1 Carcass Construction
All tyres fitted to an ‘Axle’ must be the same type of
‘Carcass’ construction, but may vary in respect of ‘Cord’
materials and number of ‘Plies’.
25.3.2 Load Capacity
The sum of the load carrying capacities recommended for
all tyres and ‘Rims’ with which the vehicle is equipped
must be not less than the ‘GVM’.
GENERAL SAFETY REQUIREMENTS ADR 42/04
Introduced by Det. No. 5 of 2003 9 of 12 ADR 42/04
25.3.3 ‘Maximum Load Rating’ of tyres must comply with
those listed for the tyre size designation in one of the
‘Nominated Standards’, or the tyre manufacturer’s
warranted maximum tyre load.
25.4 Tyre Placard
MA, MB, MC, MD, NA, NB1, TA and TB category
vehicles, must be fitted with a tyre placard which, includes
at least the following information: manufacturer’s
recommended tyre size; tyre load rating; speed rating and
cold inflation pressures
I'll try and have a look in the tyre and rims standard book tommorrow but i'm fairly sure 12.5" wide tyres are allowed on 8" wide rims.

You will struggle to find an off the shelf alloy beadlock like a Walker Evans, etc in a 16" wheel.
Another vote for rockcrawlers here.

I've never had any issues with either Dynamica or ROH steel rims, both have withstood significant punishment. I believe the Dynamica rims are used on many of the Landcruisers in the mines as they have the highest load carrying capacity and are certified as such.

Had a look in the 2009 book and it is no longer in there due to copyright reasons, went looking for the old book and it has disappeared. You are right though, that legally a 12.5 wide tyre has to be on a 8.5 wide rim minimum but as due to the fact that most (if not all) tyres that are 12.5 wide aren't legal on most 4wds, H2 Hummer is the only one I can think of that they are, makes it irrelevant though
