if its a rear coil, look at the coil hats on the chassie,if badly bent up, no good, coul rip off. that the only out of the ord 1 i can think of. just do your other regular checks when u buy a car.

How about "Check for rust in vehicles that have been, or are located near the coast, and also any vehicles that have done work in the mining industry".A few other things to look at:
- Wheel bearings
- Swivel hub assembly
- Uni joints ($100 a pop there)
- Radius arm bushes
- Bent rear lower arms (if coil)
- Sub-tank fuel pump
- Service history

see if you can find out if 5th gear has been replaced. 2000 was in the short spline era IIRC
