plenty of info around on this including build threads, you can buy a complete kit from marks 4x4 or buy some bits from marks or dellows and fab and or source second hand bits elsewhere.
either way the cost depends entirely on your ability and what $$ you end up getting the engine for

dont do the 5L. Not worth it for the power they make.
Ls2 is cheaper than you may think.

go the gen 3, you should be able to do it for under 10 grand easily, check out ebay for complete motor, get marks bellhousing adaptor, make your own mounts, i used a set of block huggers out of the states, in hpc coated cost me about $550aus landed, painted are about $150 cheaper, truck sump off ebay, au thermo fans. the 5.0l are only slightly cheaper, but the gen 3 makes a lot better power

Go the ls1. Ya should be able to do it for about 10g. Use the Dellow bellhousing, 11inch chev clutch cover with a flat diaphragm and a Nissan clutch plate.
Way cheaper than a marks and way more reliable. Ya just have to give the fire wall some lovin with a hammer, its quite easy.
Use VE commodore exhaust manifolds, they are cast steel (not cast iron) and easy to modify with a couple of 2.5 inch steam pipe bends and a mig. Way cheaper than any extractors or block hugger headers and flow just as good with some slight porting.
Marks engine mounts and extractors will work with a Dellow bell housing but I prefer to make the mounts out of GQ rear control arm bushes and marks extractors are lots of $$$$$$$ and have a bare metal finish.
Hope this helps
Cheers

i've just put a v8 injected 5 litre in my GQ, and it does have more power than the nissan donk, but i need to change the cam to give me more low down power rather than up higher in the rev range.
the conversion i did myself, for the marks kit and the v8 and bits and pieces cost me $4300 all up, but haven't got it engineered yet!!
if i did it again i would put in a stroker v8, or the ls1!
