boost controllers

Turbo smart boost controllers have a dial on top with about 8 or 10 clicks per 1 revolution of the dial.

clockwise is more boost, anticlockwise is less.

Is there any guideline as to how much the boost will change per click or revolution?

I'm just after a vauge idea - I know it will not be precise.

Im assuming these work off a spring holding a valve closed and the more you tighten the know the more spring pressure?

Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry to be a pain in the arse but you'd be nuts to be playing with a boost controller without a boost gauge. I'm assuming here, but if you had a gauge you wouldn't be asking? No idea on the clicks to psi ratio but you'll soon find out with a gauge. If you do infact have a gauge and are asking for some other reason (I can't think of one) then my apologies. ;)

nope not playing with it, more that i noticed it has a yellow marking on it which does match up with itself, it is so easy to turn that bumping it could make it change position.

im wondering if it could have been knocked half a turn and if so is it likely to have changed boost much. unlikely but just considering it may have and now trying to learn more about it.

all the web site says is when adjusting adjust a maximum of 1 full trun per test - so im guessing even if it had turned a half turn its not going to be a huge difference as they wouldnt be recommending you adjust it by 5 psi a run.

but after some kind of clarification by someone whom has played with them and has some idea.

i.e 1 psi per turn or 5 or 10.

1 psi ill stop worrying, 5 or 10 and ill crap myself :lol:

the gfb boost controller i got in the 40 uses an allen key to adjust. the destructions reckon one full turn is 3psi. naturally they tell you to close it completely afer you fit it. i did a few runs and did 1 full turn after each run and didnt really notice much of a diff..

try closing it all the way and adjusting it like that.. use your gauge and do half turns at first..?

What he said. I fitted a turbo smart boost tee the other day. It had a allen key grub screw as a lock so that it couldn't be "bumped". The turbo smart controller was a bit more sensitive than the gfb. It required less movement to change the boost pressure. They work by bleeding off boost pressure to the waste gate servo. (create a leak). if you pull the hose off the waste gate you will get full boost. Not recommend.

I run GFB boost controller and it works well just set and forget. :armsup: Although I do have a mechanic mate that runs a number 7 holley main jet in a T piece in his 75 series and it gives him an even 9lbs of boost all day.
