soo ive bought a set of second hand mtr's and it looks like the bead has been damaged when they have been removed from the old rims. its only on one spot on each tyre which makes me think thats how it has been damaged.
my question is will this damage affect the seating of the tire on the rim causeing it to leak??
it is only damaged on the base of the bead and not on the side of the bead..
the photos arnt very good quality but i hope it gives someone an idea of what i mean.

it could cause an issue but normally its ok it depends on who fits them and what rims there going on

I dont think they should be a problem.
The 35s I bought not on rims, were worse than that when I got them. Very well used, but $150 for 4 35in BFG muds, I had them fitted professionally to 15x8 sunnys, Ive had no probs yet. Touch wood.
And if you live in Mayfield, make sure you lock your lux away at night.

should be fine, just get the fitters to use some bead sealer on them. I had a few like that before and never had a problem

I'd say the bead in the top photo is a worry. There's none of the flat bead area left. It will leak or burp air readily at low pressure and you'll end up with slow bead leaks. We spent a hour on the last trip I was on unseating and cleaning the mud out of the bead of a tyre with a slow leak only to find the bead looked like this.

I'd run tubes.

I think the bottom photo is OK - there's still a fair amount of flat bead surface left.

There must be a lot of butchers out there in tyre stores. Most of the second hand swampers I've bought have really messed up beads- I mount and dismount all my own tyres and have never damaged one like that.

cheers for all the replys guys.
ill have a chat the the blokes at the tire shop and see what they recommend, either to run tubes to be safe or to just try a sealant on the bead.
