Warn M8000 repair advice

Hi.
Been having a couple of problems with my winch.
Winching in without load occasionally I get a loud screeching type sound and it instantly stops my winch. (As though the gears are binding or something).
It has happened every so often in the last couple of years. When you release the button off the hand controller then start winching in again it starts off again no problems. It has been intermittent and recently has been doing it more often that not.
About 1 1/2 months ago my winch would no longer winch in. Replaced both winch in solenoids and all good to go again.
Went out the other night and as I was winching in to take up the slack the same screeching noise happened a couple of times and then the winch would no longer winch in.
I'm pretty sure the solenoids are stuffed again.
From my understanding, when the winch stops suddenly it is putting almost a dead short accross the solenoids causing them to burn out?
Anyone have any ideas on what the problem could be?
Have pulled it apart and on quick inspection the gears looks to be ok. Although I haven't cleaned them up yet and had a good look.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Paul
