New 2 seater buggy - will basicaly be 35 spline D60 spec front and rear with 4.6L HSE motor, ZF auto, LT230 blah blah blah. Planing on sending this thing to the US to compete over there - probably next year.

These have been available for over 10 years. I bought mine in 93.
the only problem with them is the hub seal is not very effective. I ended up machining down the seal surface on the spindles to accept a Rangey double lipped double spring oil seal, fitted a hardened thrust washer between the inner bearing cone and the shouler on the spindle,and sleeved down the series 3 hubs too. I have had no problems with leaky hub seals since, even though my portal boxes are completely full of oil.

Great, why couldn't I get some decent "non-custom" axles to fit the back of my Rangie when I got sick of snapping axles, and baulked at spending $5k on axles for a $3k vehicle, they do bullet proof 5 speeds too?

Stock Patrol, can't break it,

Im actually not sure what seal Im going to run on these. Jeff at Jac Mac was saying something about the rangie double lipped seal but I carnt remember exactally what. He was saying how good the rangie one is but I dont know if I can run them in this setup. Im not sure if the OD of the seal that I have to run is bigger than the stock rangie one - I would imagine it is bigger cause the OD of the inner cone will be 82mm and I think the stock seal in smaller than that. Dont know what the ID of the seal needs to be either but I will chase allthis stuff up next week.

Easy to get non custom axles for rangie from a couple of different suppliers and you wouldnt of had to spend more than $500.

A bullet proof 5 speed is called an R380 (although it really isnt all that bullet proof) Better off with an auto - The ZF is probably good for 300HP and the Torque flight 727 is probably good for 1000+HP.

And Im sure I could break your stock patrol although the patrol rear diff that has the 37 spline axles would probably hang on all right. Although it would be a bit of a rock magnet cause its a bloody big mofo.

Sam , just going by the photo of the spindles I would say that you cannot run Rangey double lipped seals unless you machine down the seal ring.
If you don't use the buggy in deep mud the seals jeff supplies would probably be ok. The last time i checked with the bearing companies, there wasn't a double lipped double spring seal available with that inside diameter. A mate of mine who runs the bigger spindles without changing to rangey seals averages one hub seal per month on a daily driver.

It will kick around here for a bit if time permits although while it is here it will be running stock front axles (although still 35 spline) and the longside will be shortned buy cutting it and resplining so I really wouldnt want to drive it too hard (although I probably will) cause I wont know how strong it will be and I wont have any spares. When I send the rig I will get some new alloy front shafts and CTM joints while its in the US. Thats the plan anyway.

Yea I will post a proper buildup thread here. This was going to be it but I didnt think that a couple of pics of some axles and spindles would be too interesting to everybody here. So I posted this thread having a dig at everybody saying how good rovers are. But once I get more into it and have some interesting pics Ill start the buildup thread.

They just didn't like the 3.9V8, 34"tyres & Air Locker combo, I broke axles at 1000rpm.
