im rebuilding my diesel and was wondering how i could make the turbo dose or flutter when i change gears just wondering cause i here diesel comp trucks dose any info would be appreciated . Justin. iv got a safari turbo and it will have a cooler

no and sort of
lots of fuel and lots of boost with too smaller dump pipe on a denco or Garrett copy.
The noise you hear is actually exhaust pulsing back against the turbine wheel.
You can make the turbo 'compressor surge' with enough boost and a free flowing intake with minimal filtration - this wont be loud though..

Why? While it might sound cool to some people, but "dosing" it not good for your turbo, and is counter productive to performance.

Why? While it might sound cool to some people, but "dosing" it not good for your turbo, and is counter productive to performance.

gotta 38mm external ultra gate, it dumps boost hard and with alot of noise but you get 'over it' real quick....

Is this the flutter your talking about? When bombed up petrol car changes gears(?) Most diesels won't as there's no throttle plate to slam shut. Any engine that has a throttle body (all petrols and some diesels), that has no BOV or one that isn't big enough and the boost is high enough when swappin cogs, this fluttering sound is a boost pulse bouncing back and forth between the compressor wheel and the throttle plate. Verrrrrry bad, it will blow intake hoses off and in extreme cases, it can unwind the compressor wheel, spinning the nut off the spindle and then bang. I don't know why you want that sound, to me a turboed engine that does it just sounds like it hasn't been done properly. Whatever oils your gears I guess.

Mine does it very loud on gear changes
Im running a large JPC modded GT28 has a big 4" inlet and airbox is 4" in from the 4" and out to the turbz, also 3" custom dump and strait through exhaust with no mufflers and a 2 1/2" crossover pipe from turbo to intake and it gives me a big dose on gearchanges

i got a 2860RS on my SD33T @ 20psi and it doesnt "dose"
It "whooshes" when i back off...cool noise

Im interested to know this.....
so the term dose is the blow off noise that comes on gear changes and when you back off???
Mine is a woooshhh noise doing this, not a whistle....
I had the take my air intake and snorkel off recently to re do some stuff in my engine bay and put a pod filter straight on the intake pipe in the engine bay temperarily and wow what a diffference.... the noise constantly coming from the turbo is great and the woosh is more predominant....
Obviously i believe this is bad for it ( its only while i re do my elec in my engine bay ) though i do like the noise of the turbo....
Someone above mentioned to increase the noise of the turbo u either free up the intake / pod filter, ( not recommended ) or what an external waste gate on?
my TD42T has a Dynamic DTS aftermarket kit on it from MTQ.... im wondering what mods are available for this kit to improve things like this, can i externally wastegate and leave my intake alone to get results or is it not worth it? I run 11 - 12 pound boost..... unsure how to adjust this.
Not very experianced with turbos as i always used to have V8s....
Im in the market for a front mount intercooler atm which should be good, wondering if this will help?

Righto. There's probably a few workshops doing bolt on upgrades (DieselTec/PGS/JPC) for your kit, much like they do for the stock TD42T units.
As far as external wastegates go, you're probably wasting your time putting one on your setup as there would be some serous mods needed to get the most out of it. Your internally gated turbo would need the wastegate flap welded (not good for resale value), and ideally you would modify the dump pipe to bypass the wastegate duct. I would even go as far as filling/porting the wastegate duct on the turbine side to help reduce eddies.
Then, you need the spare real estate on your exhaust manifold to get your wastegate mounted up, and then you'll need to plumb the wastegate dump back into the exhaust post turbo. There's also rules and best practice with setting up external gate exhaust flow from the manifold, and also re-entry back to the exhaust.
Probably cheaper and easier to just buy an externally gated turbo.
