2F or 3F in 76 Toyota

Hey everyone

Okay heres the question. Today there was an add in the local rag and it reads like this,

Land Cruiser
76, with 85 motor, good mech, as is or will wreck, $800.

The problem is I wanted to know what motor this is, and I suggested that it might be the 2F. To this he said it was either the 2F or 3F, and he can to the conclusion that it was the 3F.
I wasn’t aware there was a 3F ever made. The details he supplied were that it was the Petrol 6 with a 350 holly carbie set up. And my question is which engine do you think it is, because when I asked weather the g-box was 4 or a 5 speed, he said a 4.

mate the 3F was in the 60 series to my knowledge.

the early 60s had a 2F in the petrols, then the later had a 3F.

im pretty sure on this.

2Fs werent know for reving freely thats why the 3Fs were designed with a shorter stroke, all they did was put a shorter stroke in a 2F and came in at the 4.0L mark. (2Fs being 4.2L) raising the torque curve to higher RPM.

id say its a 3F as it was made in 85. 3Fs had fuel injection too. but i think the earlier ones had a carb.

gearboxs can be mixed and matched so thats not really any help. he may of just picked up a newer engine and did a swap which id say is the case.

I think they were all 3F from 1984 onwards in OZ.
The 2F went out with the 45 series here.
The Americans had the 2F until the the 62 series come out with the fuel injected 3Fe.

the first few letters/ numbers of the vehicle identification number will tell you what donk it has..

no number in front of the F..... F motor
2 in front of the F..... 2F

i am almost definite that it will be a 2F unless it has been changed out from original ;)

did you even read the original message?

reddo don't do it dude, stick with the diesel or convert it to a newschool EFI motor, all the F series motors are awful especially in fuel economy.
