spider gears

hey guys i drive a swb vitara and i have hade a very loud noise in the back end, took it to the mechanic today and he says there is a good chance i have a broken spider gear if this is so is it a hard job to replace, i will do it my self or am i beter off getting a complete second hand diff center and putting it in.

i have enuff tools to open a work shop yes about 4 rattle guns
grown up working on motor bikes and car engins but sadly not diffs

Open diff or locker ..
If it is an open diff I would simply swap in another centre.
Unless you know how to set the diff gears back up .. by yourself is not an ideal way to learn.
That said I would think it quite unusual to bust a spider/side gear in a zuk diff .. usually axles go well before side gears ( is not completely unheard of though)

yer well i am goin off what my mechanic told me and its not the axels because they both spin when either one is lifted off the ground and it is not locked
