Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hey, Ive just bought a set of 33x12.5x15 Swampers, now Im after some rims for them to live on.
Im definately after steel, and 15x8.
They will be going on a LN65, 1986 solid axle hilux, for off road use only.
Im thinking either sunnys, Ive used sunnys for a while and am happy with them, but just wanted opinions on what else is around, Ive also looked at the ProComp Rockcrawler rims. There is also some called Daytona??
When looking at the Rockcrawler rims, I noticed that they come in either -19 or -50 offset. I think I need -22 which is cruiser/hilux offset.

Will the -19 offset be ok??
What other rims are around that are ok for offroad??
What are the prices I can expect to pay for them??

rockcrawler>dynamic>roh>speedy

i just got some of the 50mm offset rockcrawlers, paid 95 ea for them, haven't tested them out yet tho, hopefully this week end

FYI,

"Cruiser offset" is around -12 / -13

you will want around -25, the 16x8s on my lux are -26 and sit nicely but if they are going to be play tyres only you could go a bit more negatve offset to give a wider track

offset changes with width of rim, i do believe cruiser offset on an 8" rim is -22mm

-12/13 may be for 7's?

I run the 16x8 Procomp Crawler rims with -22 offset of my GQ shorty

Before i bought this rims i was always bending rims the procomp rims are strong if you want to spend that little extra cash for them.

rockcrawlers are better than the other wheels on the market and have a nicer finish .

I really like the look of the rockcrawler rims, but Im not too keen on the black, they only come in black, and from what I was told by the local distributor, stocks are low at ProComp, meaning if I buy now, I wont see any rims for at least a month. He couldnt give me a definate price but said around the $150 mark, which is a bit high for me.
I was also quoted $69 each for normal sunnys, not sure of brand but Im already suspicious of what the quality would be like.
Ill ring the local BBM guy(Jamie Way, Central Coast BBM), and see what he can do. I know that BBM in Sydney used to have some rims that are similar to the rockcrawler rims, I think they are called Daytonas.
Ill also send Ryano a PM and ask him his thoughts.

The last thing I want to do, is buy shit rims and have them break/bend while Im wheeling.

Next step down is Dynamic can get procomp look alikes for $85 each down here in Vic and as well as i can get procomp Crawler rims for $110 each.

Just to update my search for rims.
I rang a few places this morning, and rang the place that quoted me $69 a rim to find a bit more about them, brand, etc.
They are King 15x8, -23 offset, 3.5mm lip, 6mm centre, so they sound very strong. And sound like excellent value at $68.40 each wheel.
Now my question is, should I run tubes in them, the tyres are pretty much new, I used a set and ran them at 16psi on all types of terrain, so Id probably be running them at 15-16psi offroad.
Should I have tubes installed while Im there?? Or should I not worry about tubes??

if you're only planning to go as low as 15-16psi I wouldn't worry about tubes but if you think you may go lower for a sustained period of time then I would put tubes in

I've got KING rims for off roading only with 33/12.5/15 and are great.
I would not go any more then 20mm neg off set if you intend to do a lot on road driving. 8" rims will be great but don't go any bigger you will roll your beads off if you intend to lower your pressure like you say.

I bought chrome rockcrawlers and have been disappointed in the chrome finish, they where showing rust after less than 12months.
they have stood up to my offroad driving with no problems. I would go for painted ones if buying them again.

Do you guys think that the rims above would handle offroad conditions??

Kings and Dynamic will handle a fair flogging and they are well priced so if you do stuff one, it's not the end of the world. If you are doing a lot of rock, it might pay to lash out and buy some ProComp.

Can set them up as low as about 1" backspacing. THese are made to order and to suit the individuals wants. We've just moved the manufacture to Brisbane and modified the design so we won't be seeing the crazy time frames that have occurred in the past.

Do you have a rough price guide you can PM me? I really like those rims and need about -30mm offset.

On the sidewalls of the Swampers, it says that specified rim size is 15x10.
Does that mean that I have to buy 10inch wide rims?? Will 8inch wide be ok??
I know that 12.5inch wide tyres can safely run on a 8inch wide rim, but want to double check before I go and buy anything.
Im currently running 35x12.5in muddys on my lux for daily duties, they are on 15x8 sunnys and so far Ive had no problems.
Also, another question, how low could I run the tyre pressure before I need tubes??
Id be running around the 15psi area for most offroad situations, and that should be low enough for most tracks. But Im just curious.

15x8 will be fine.
Bias tyres will usually happily run a few PSI lower than a Radial unbeadlocked. I wouldn't have a drama running 15PSI front and probably as low as 12PSI rear without tubes or beadlocks (low speed). Just have a play with the pressures over time.

I spoke to the guy that owned the tyres before me, the guy that I bought them off.
He had them on 8s too.
Pretty much what I thought.
I just wanted to double check before I started buying rims.
