Will the driveshaft hit the long range fuel tank?

Hey guys
I've been looking for a GQ to buy that's on dual fuel, the ones that I've looked at so far have a custom petrol tank on the drivers side in front of the rear diff. Some of them are only an inch away from the driveshaft, I plan on putting in 4inch susp, big muds and doing some serious 4wdriving
Is the driveshaft going to hit into the tank when the rear diff flexes? Does anyone have a similar setup?

For a 4" lift you are going to need longer / adjustable panhards, so the diff should stay in roughly the same position.
You may need a replacement upper control arm that is bent to give it clearance over the back of the tank.

Yes the 4 inch suspension will be done properly with all required control arms, panhards etc
I'm just wondering if it will hit when doing some serious 4wdriving, it just seems very close to the driveshaft

MATE I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS HAPPEN. IT DID HIT CROSS MEMBER ON CHASSI SO PULL TAIL SHAFT OUT AND FLIP IT ROUND. PROBLEM SOLVED

with the drive shaft in the stadard position they seem to be ok.....just, when roatated as stanard for larger lists ie small end on transfer to allow a little extra clearance over crossmember and they WILL hit

The rear driveshaft on mine touched the tank. A little adjustment of the panhard, and a lovetap on the tank with a mash hammer, and it doesn't touch anymore..

with a ADJ panhard adjusted approx 8mm off centre will be fine, might touch if you have longer shocks and drop outs ect, just adjust the panhard a little more,
my 3" spring with 6" shocks very rarely touches the tank. The extra fuel is worth the setting up hassle.

Mine with 4" lift (with adj panhard) and 33's touches the tank occasionally (well the flange does) but seriously it is occasionally and not worth worrying about. If you are that worried mate drop the tailshaft and give the tank a couple of hits with the hammer directly next to the flange.

My 5" with adj panhards and tailshaft turned around put a hole in the tank :(
when going thru wombat holes etc, the diff moves ALOT as you could imagine.

mines pretty close, i was pretty dubious about it when i fitted the tank, ive got 2" hd springs which sit at about 3" with not much in the car.
When i lifted the tank into place there was about enough room to put your little finger between the shaft and tank - having said that the rear susp was at full droop as the car was jacked up - compressed i had about an inch (i don't have adj panhards)
To date i haven't had a problem, i figure that if you had more lift and adj panhards, just jack it up and see how much clearance there is, you could always wind the diff over a fraction more if it was too close - shouldn't get much closer than at full droop, allowing for rubber bush movement of course.

Just undo the mount bolts and push it over. Check the chassis clearance when you do, as there is the trailing arm bolt head sticking out and you don't want it to rub with vibration. Mine used to touch (pretty bad actually) but half an inch over was all it needed to clear.

im running a 6 inch lift and i just had to put a bent upper control arm in, and obviously the adj. panhards were in and my tailshaft was flipped the other way around. the only thing that just rubs a little now is my spring but nothing to worry about.

Yes definitely need bent upper arm.
Hey adzy, I made up a a coil insert (plastic, about 2 inches thick and as round as the ID of the coil) to extend the perch on the diff. It simply bolts to the existing hole in the perch on the diff to keep the spring from popping off it when all twisted up. It stops all the clanging and banging that you always hear.

These are the locators and they work perfect.
However, I pulled the big springs out once and ran 3 inch coils so I needed drop out cones. They are made of the same material, just black and made in three pieces, like a sandwich, so you don't need to pull the springs out to get them in.
