Engine angle in Shorty Patrol

I was hoping you guys could shed some light here . Doing a Engine swap in the shorty Patrol and noticed the engine is on a steep angle . The engine is a WH45DE V8 . The vehicle has a 4 " lift and a 3: body lift . I assume the angles are to assist the tail shafts . What I was wondering was , will the angle effect front cyliders running dry at the valves ? also the sump oil pump is in the front , Just over the diff . It is a distance away , but am I better to modify it so the pick up is at the rear of the engine ? I was thinking that as soon as the car hits a hill , the oil will run away from the pick up . Now the current WH454DE thats in there is suffering from a shot bottom end and Valve guides. So as you could emagine , I am very sus on the original set up and dont want to make the same mistake .

I would go for a well in the rear for the pick up of a size big enough to have oil over pickup whatever an angle you may expect.

Thanks bazzle , any idea about the valves up front ? I am thinking that a baffle in the head will slow the oil from running away from the front valves

I would talk to a reconditioner to find out how the valves are oiled.
You may find as long as you have pressure you will have enough oil round the guides etc.

Thats what my guess was , I am familiar with what does on in there but have always build drag cars in the past , this is my first off road animal so its always best to ask people who have been there before you lol .
Thanks for the help so far guys

Is there enough room to lower the engine slightly, so as to reduce the angle. As Hazard only had a 58mm BL. Would be interesting to know if he had problems, being a LWB it wouldn't be as much of a problem though.
Would like to know what you did to fix it and how much the fix was. As I am in the planning stages at the moment.

Thanks for the link guys , its all on the vehicle that i now own . dont get me wrong , I like the conversion but think that with a few mods it could be better . For one the radiator is under the lowest water port in the heads , this could cause cracked heads like in the VL commodores. and the sump is a major worry . I can easily raise the radiator and run a modified sump and pick up . I am now just working out why things have gone wrong so it dosn't happen again.
As mentioned in the link supplied above . It seams the pressure plate has collapst , this is causing the push rod in the slave to keep popping out .
All the hang on's are off now and the motor will be out shortly after some more messurements

For the cooling system look at putting a riser with a cap somwhere on system to bleed out air and fill over highest point.

reverse your sump like you said. that will give you the clearance over the diff to lower the front of the engine a bit.

hazard can't keep gearboxes in it!!
but thats cause its twin turbo, and he likes to race WRXs in a full wagon.

I assume you know that the shot valve guides destroying the engine have more to do with when the engine was made (pre 93 model) than any angle/oiling issue?

No its something I didn't know. Is there any ID on the engines to verify the year of manufacture . Now another thing , I am assuming the valve guides are shot . On start up , I get a heap of smoke till the engine warms up , once it get to operating temreture , there is no smoke unless I shut it down for more that 15 min. There was no blow by from the crank case , so I assumed guides .

I suggest you read this to find out about the chainguide issues with VH45de's (ahhhh... you are a bit late to do anything other than new engine by the sounds of it). Check out and search the rest of the forum for lots of usefull crap on the engines. "Infiniti general" is where most of the info usefull to you can be found.

edit - just noticed you are talking about valve guides and i have craped on about chain guides..... at least they are both guides of some sort

but the forum would be able to help you somehow
