hey iv got a 92 td4.2 maveric wagon wonderin how possible it would be to put a gu ute cab on the maverics wagon chasis any info would be great cheers

you will never get a road worthy for it if you decide to sell it had a mate with a mav and he twisted the chassis and put a gq chassis under it and couldnt sell it because the chassis was from a different manufacutre

It can be done yes, but as the other guy said the legality of it may be an issue.

Im sure if you spoke to an engineer firstly they would realise its the same chassis and made by the same people you may not have any issues.

But yeah best to speak to an engineer first.

It would need to pass an engineers certificate as a re-bodied car. Same deal as the rhino cars. They can't build the blitz as a car and then get it registered but they can put the blitz body on an already registered chassis and then have it engineered as a re-bodied car.

well thats good to know ill check into that. does anyone know if the body mounts are simalar from the gu to the gq/mav if anyone could help would be great

Just curious why you'd want to go to an older chassis? The GU chassis has been strengthened compared to the GQ chassis. As for the body mounts, I'm not sure.

personally I would just cut the mav down
its a massive job putting a gu body onto it and alot more expensive

its because i have the td4.2t mav already and dont hav a liecence for a bit just thought a cheap way to hav a 4.2 turbo gu ute or if not im just goin to chop the maveric down

The cheapest and easiest way would be to put your engine in the GU. Way less hassles.

don,t forget the cost of gu diffs as gq ones will look small under a gu

if ya not gunna have ya licence for a while i'd just save up for a gu with a buggered motor and wack your one in alot easier to do, then ya get the gu diffs aswell, just what i would do

I have heard it will not get passed as the chasis is older than the cab and they have different ADR approvals to each chasis. Ring QT to find out before you do it.

The gu chassis has air bag crush zones on the front. you need these to pass adr rules even if the cab you use doesnt have air bags.
Would most engineers notice the difference................. NO

The easiest way to do this is to register it as a rebodied mav, peice of piss to do just need a few mod plates. The down side is then it will still be registered as a 88 mav for example.

If you wish to register it as a gu tho it creates a bit more work but can be done

I have seen this done - the owner told me the body mounts were the same. But I would double check.

Good luck finding a ute with a buggered motor........ until the latest model ALL utes were TD42....... Good luck finding a blown up one, they are too tuff, not many actually die before the truck is crashed or damaged....

There was a GU ute for sale up in Townsville a few years ago that didn't have an engine. I'm spewin that I didn't get it while I could.

MQHOON put a GU ute cab onto a GQ swb chassi.

mate you can get it passed no worrys at all...you could put a corolla body on it if you wanted.they pass it as a ICV.gets done all the time.but i would find a gu chassis tho.

yeah body mounts are the same and is legal to do in queensland as i have done one.. easy to do but i would just cut the mav down way cheaper pm me if you want pics or any more info on it. i have pics of everything,, stuffs me what the guys are on that reckon ya cant do it?? WHY???

So have you made any phone calls so that we can see what the go is with doing this conversion.

When I was at TJM Coopers Plains a sales person there done the same. He put a GU ute cab (bolts straight up) onto a GQ coil chasis. Now he sold it with out registering it. Now I was talking to Giantracing who knows his shit about these sort of conversions and he said the guy that bought it bought a GU chasis and swapped the chasis from GQ to GU to be able to get it registered in Qld.

found out just like Scanas said it can be done i talked talked to 1 of my dads mates whos an engineer and he said its the same as wen people chuck a hotrod body on hq mazda or toyota ute chasis as he has complied these before and this wouldnt be any diferant to any of them
