This is USA related only, just thought I would share with you Aussie's why we got denied the Patrol. For many years us Nissan/Datsun enthusiests in the USA didn't know exactly why we didn't get Patrols after 1969. Many of us are upset because we want to buy and own them and not knowing why you can't doesn't make you any happier. There has been a rumor over here for awhile as to why we have not had this awesome truck in 35 years. Actually there has been a number of rumors on this, one in paticular was the most famous. Well, a friend and Patrol enthusiest in the USA just solved the mystery.

This is directly related to Toyota and ultimately Mr. K who is still alive and responsible for Datsuns/Nissan on our soil. Mr. K started it all over here back in 1960....

Here is a link to the story and info on the riddle and how it got solved. I am related to this because I sold the 1966 (red) Patrol to the person who got the questions answered. ;)

Wicked story! Loved it.

Mr. K is a very smart man, and it sounds like he draws respect from many thousands of people!

It is clear that Mr. K is very smart and hence thought patrols were crap. :armsup:

That is a cool story but lets think about the issues at hand. If Nissan and Toyota both decided to make a move on the US market at the same time would the current stable of Patrols be any different.

Now considering that Toyota is currently IFSing their whole range at the present and I assume this is being driven by the US market? Like do they sell more Lexus's there than say ours, SAfrica,Far East and South Amercian markets?

Prolly would've made no difference to Oz markets but something to think about with the US Market.

bah! :finger: :P

@Singo17....

You could be right that if they had been sold here it may have affected the Patrol worldwide. Many of our SUV's are now becoming IFS and also IRS. This wasn't the treand though until about 10 years ago or so. It sucks but the masses who buy SUV's never do wheeling in them and the masses are what affect the manufacturers. But I like to think Nissan is smart enough not keep the Patrol a solid axle truck regardless....

Give it some time and even Jeeps may become IS trucks. :roll:

Like the next TJ replacement and the already IFS cherokee, Grand is confirmed IFS yes in the next year. Bad news for Jeep luvers and good news for current TJ owners here at least they may just hold resale value as they get older.

I would think the next Patrol would be IFS using a US sourced platform and the GU will be the last of the Solid wagons going around.

My Dad had a 77' G60 tuff old truck it was never had a major problem, was just a tad thirsty :D
