Tie rod ends - Genuine or Aftermarket ?

Hi All,

Wondering what others experiences are with tie rod ends. I'm making up heavy duty steering links atm and am going to replace the ends at the same time. For you comp people out there have you found the aftermarket (cheaper) rod ends to be weaker ? We're looking at approx $130 difference between aftermarket and genuine so worth doing if there is no strength compromise.

Don't want to go to the effort of making heavy wall links and then placing a weak link at the end just to save some $$$.

Appreciate your thoughts ?

Emma :)

Ive never had issues with after market tie rod ends.... its almost always the rod that ya bend before those ends break.....

Ends tend to break far more when they are rose joints.....

Hi Em

I've been running aftermarket on those links of mine for ages. They probably came from the same factory to be honest, you'd never know for sure and it happens a lot with other parts.

Just take some fencing wire with you as a backup...... :D

Excellent, aftermarket it is then! (and fencing wire and maybe a jack handle just in case)

Thanks guys. :)

following on from this....is there an aftermarket brand people recommend, use, advise to stay well clear of??

I chased some up today and price ranged from $45 for four to $145 for one.... :?

We use Roadsafe and Transteering at work, never had a drama and well priced.

I recently replaced both ends on the lux, and I got Roadsafe brand from my local spare parts shop.
I think it was about 30-40 bucks for both ends.
Quality seems good, so far so good.

I snapped a snake racing rod end.

Now i run Superior draglink and its unbreakable.
save your time and just buy one of Superiors draglink with tie rod ends.
$335rrp for the whole thing.
or they have rod end kits also.

It's already on it's way, near $700 for both the drag and tie rod kit. Doing it custom was going to work out expensive due to the thread cutter thing (Gosh I'm such a techxpert! :P ) being a specific size no one else kept? Apparently it had to be ordered direct from Toyota and was going to cost a motza and take weeks, not worth it. Besides we don't have the time anymore to build stuff ourselves.... apart from the odd batch of cup cakes on a sunday.

I bought my rod ends for the GQ from Superior and they were considerably cheaper than anywhere I tried.
