Engine wont rev - GQ / TB45

I have a GQ with a TB45 engine fitted. The engine wont rev past 3000rpm on fully throttle. When it hits 3000rpm it stops dead and misfires so it must be electrical. If I drive away slowly with half throttle it will rev to 6000rpm. I have removed the rev limitor from the rotor button and I can find what else it could be. If I use half throttle to get to 5000rpm then floor it the engine makes horrible sucking noises and backfires.
TB45 engine with TB42 distributor
pertronix lobe sensor ignition
NGK BPR6ES plugs 38 thou gap
New bosch plug leads
Bosch GT40 coil
Straight gas no ECU
Anyone got any ideas?????
EDIT:
tittle changed

Check that the intake hoses aren't collapsing. A clogged air filter will make it worse too.

I have seen a few crack the dizzy cap where the coil lead goes in.

Bad Mav - you were right on the money! I ran a coil of fencing wire inside my intake hoes and it fixed it.
Thanks heaps!

Cool, I had it happen to my 75ser after I turboed the 2H in it. Yeah I did the same coil of wire trick.

It was well worth the conversion. I also dont have any risk of cracking a head as its rare for TB45 to do it.
I have done a lot of work to the engine also to prepare it for LPG.
I have a build thread on 4WD action forum, have a look there to get the info rather than me post it all here again
