What to buy next?

Hey Fellas. Im selling my GQ in a few months and will be looking at getting a dual cab ute. Would prefer a D40/BT50 or possibly a Lux but am unsure as to what to buy. Have about $22k to spend and it must be turbo diesel and more comfortable than the GQ as its going to be more of a family car. The odd trip up the beach or up the forestry and im not really going to modify it much. Any thoughts or opinions on the D40/BT50 for reliability/economy/safety, etc is much appreciated. (This bit removed by moderator if you want to sell follow the rules and do it properly )

Thanks for any info shared

I did the same as you and went from a Gu wagon back to a D22 dualcab for work related reasons. I cant see you getting a D40 for that sort of money thou you will get a D22. They are no were near as comfy as a coil sprung car. It will suit forestry and beach work but dont expect to much more than that from a torsion bar truck. I dont know much about them but have you thought of a Landrover Defender as they come in D/cab and coil sprung ?? as I said dont know if there any good though just food for thought.

some d40s are going for low -mid 20 now, with extras but not the essentials like good lift /tyres. i was offered 23 trade for mine about 12 months ago when it had 110,000km on it,and wanted another 29 thousand to get the same as what i had.

For comfort you would much rather a disco.
You would get a pretty damned nice S2 discovery for that money, wayy more comfortable than the defender or GQ, and the turbo diesel td5 is very reliable and punches out plenty of grunt for a 2.5L engine. Put a chip in it and you can spin the wheels in 3rd if you have a manual.

Dosn't go as good as a D40 but it does have a good lot of puch. Economy is excelent I get 10ltrs per 100 around town & on Trip to Rockhampton with cruise control set to 105 with only cloths bags, 60ltr waeco full & family of 4 was getting 8.5ltrs per 100.
I picked mine up in September last year Its a 05 Turbo deisel with 105,000 Ks, Dark blue with Arb canopy, Rhino racks, Arb bull bar, Ipf lights, snorkel, Dual Bat, Longrange tank, Arb 2" suspension inc torsion bars, Factory cruise control & Tinted windows. It is a very clean truck the only thing it needed was a good set of tyres though the ones on it are now on my trailer so they wern't that bad. I picked it up for $21,000.
I went the D22 for the 3.0 motor as it has been tried & tested for the past 10 years, though the extra room in the D40 would have been nice.

Is the TD the ZD30? Ie. the bomb motor?

Yes it is the Bomb motor, Though it didnt suffer the same fate or bad wrap as the Patrol motor.
