Look up your trans/axle code and go the next diff ratio down. eg, 4.88 drop to 4.56, 4.56 drop to 4.3.
Ive got 4.56 and 35's on my 4runner and it putts along fine on the highway.

It's the other way around 4.3 to 4.56 and 4.56 to 4.88

yeah 1:4.88 is lower than 1:4.56

so the smaller the second number (number other than 1) the higher the ratio

i had 33's on my 1990 hilux 2.4 petrol standard g box, transfer, and diff ratios and i preferred the drive over the 31's
instead of doing 3000rpm to do 100 i was doing about 2700 ish to do 90 on speedo (100 in actual speed) and it was better on fuel also fourth gear at 100 was doing the same revs as fifth used to so if a hill approached you just go to 4th and then at 80ish on speedo 3rd

just fit the tyres first and drive it to see what you want, there is no need spending money on ratios when you may not need or want to.

I have 4.88s on my 2.4 which had 4.56 ratios at stock.
Am running 35s and my speedo says 100km/h when im doing actually 120km/h according to my gps.
Turbo the 2.4, will never look back!

is urs turboed?
was talking to a bloke i know in brisbane and im thinking about putting diesel gas on it as well it will give me another 20% on top off the 30% for the turbo but its not cheap and another option down the track is a intercooler?
so itll 50 percent more powerful ill be happy with that

yeah mate its turbo'd running 12psi.
Be careful, running the gas and the turbo will make the motor pretty hot so a really good cooling system will be needed and the turbo will get hot as well so an intercooler will be needed.
I wouldnt recommend 12psi if your gonna run it on gas as well as I've cracked 4 pistons running 12psi on my old motor but that was for 6 months of abuse.
the CT20 is a cheap option but they get hot when running 12psi for long periods of time so therefore lose efficiency.
It used to have a safari turbo system on it before and it was running 15psi and it blew up the turbo before the motor.
Cheers
Dan
