If your talking about a Sierra, I grinded 5-7mm off the rear gearbox mount on the chassis.

The first time i took my gearbox out i didn't do this and it was quite hard to get back in (but do-able).

The second time it was out i cut a little off the mount off and it went up with little problems

Cheers

Undo the bracket that holds the gearbox mount to the gearbox and take it off. That'll give you heaps of clearance. Also jack the car right up at the front and put it on axle stands to give yourself some room to manoeuvre. I did this on the weekend and it was pretty easy once I did all that.

if they put them in from the factory without modification then you shouldnt need to either sayin that doing a simple mod may make it a ton easier jack the whole car up put it on axel stands and using a trolley jack with a gearbox adaptor ( wrong name for it i know but can buy them from supa chep ) or a strong mate with the tailshaft attached try to alighn the input shaft with the ( forgot the name ) whole in the crankshaft... may need to roll the wheels so that the splines mesh up and then just push it in... i jacked the front of my motor right up to make it easier and drained oil from the box to... hope this helps and sorry if i didnt make sense though

did u make sure the clutch is lined up and centered?

if u already have the engine mounts off it may prove easier-clearence wise to bolt the gearbox in the zook, use a engine crane or block and tackle to move the engine all the way foreward(take clutch fan off) and then lower and line it up with the gearbox..

whe we changed my mates to a g16b it was easier to line up and put it together this way then pulling a gearbox out and having to work under the car lifting and using a jack..

just an idea...
