4.2TD Patrol tuning questions?

My Patrol was tuned yesterday. The boost is on 10psi. They got 114.2hp or 85kw out of it. This is with a 3inch exhaust(standard dump pipe).

I gave it a run on the freeway today for work. I was heading out on the M4 for work to pick up a new engine. I noticed it is now extremely thirsty. You could watch the fuel gauge drop when I put the foot down. Once I picked up the motor upon entering the freeway I gave it the berries. I got the egt to 550 degrees fairly easily then I backed off.

I know that i'd have to expect worse economy, but that bad? I reckon I'd barely get 300kms out of a main tank.

Is that an expected amount of power to have for a tune or should there be more? How much can I up the boost on a non intercooled motor?

Will a dump pipe make a big difference and will it reduce my egt?. I have it I just need to fit it.

What sort of results did you get with a similar tune?

Cheers

really? 300k out of 80 litres? that has to be an exaggeration of some sort?

Im waiting to put the intercooler in mine before a tune, and untuned i get to 550C only in 4th up long steep hills, but still thought economy was bad at 17litres loaded per hundred on sand trips. Most people with normal tyres id expect around the 13-14l/100 normal, even with a hot tune, but you are talking 24l/100 just on a normal road!

Hows the black smoke on acceleration?

Very rarely do we have customers loose economy when tuning, particularly with an exhaust. The ones that do usually find as they return to their normal driving habits (new found power) the economy usually improves marginally. I would look into how it was tuned, did they use a pyro and add fuel and boost or just fuel? I do our tuning off a pyro and match manufacturers temps by adjusting fuel and boost to safe practical levels.

Injection timing plays a big part in fuel usage.
Ask them what they set it to.
They may also be able to find a happy medium between your current power level and fuel consumption
