I've tried tto get more info but none of them stock them & to fine out more info from it I got told I'd have to pay for freight just to find out!!! WTF!!!!!!

what are you going to use this 3 tonne winch for, what sorta 4by will you be dragging?

in my opinion it willl be way underrated for what you may want,

i have a 5t tirfor, and we have overloaded it a few times, thus breaking the shear pins, just to give you an idea,

I bought a hand winch from the local wrecker (new), the name escapes me but it is similar to the turfer winch sold by arb (prob comes from same factory). It am very happy with it, i have used it twice, once to winch up a 45 deg hill (lwb patrol fully loaded) and the other time to spin a hylux around 180deg, both times with out a hitch. it comes in three bags and has a easy to use holder for storing the cable. It also pulls both ways when moving the handle not like the pull return and pull method., and the handle (extendable) makes a great breaker bar (fits the end of the rachet nicely)

Very happy (i think it was around the 250mark, next i will get a electric winch, good for doing solo trips

But that said i would always cary a hand winch as they can pull in any direction, including lifting

I've got an '78 International Scout Traveller, 345 cuin 727, dana 44's front & rear, She's not exactly a lightweight! So yeah maybe a 5 tonnes needed!
thanks for the input
cheers

On the wieght thing have alook how many cars out there have 9000lb ( 4082kg) winches, and then there is all the Patrols and cruisers driving around with 8000lp (3628kg) high mounts. So a hand winch rated at 3000kg that want be to bad. I would still prefer to have a powered winch, but if thats all you can aford, it sounds like a good price.

Also just a compraison on price-
T-508D (800kg) - $645
T-516D (1600kg) - $879
T-532D (3200kg) - $1532
These prices are from Topdog 4WD accessories - http://www.bmackay.com.au/topdog/winchestirfor.html

For those prices I would go elec. I didnt think they where so expensive.

If it is a geniune 3t winch, it will be fuggin BIG and fuggin HEAVY!!

The Tirfor 3200kg hand winch dwarfs the 1600kg model, by almost twice the size.

The 1600kg is rated to dead lift 1600kgs but are generally also rated at a 2500kg single line pull. These are also SWL, not necessarily max. The shear pin will go before you reach that. As a backup, get yourself a snatch block (pulley) and do a double line pull which brings you up to 5000kg pulling abilty. And if you need to pull something bigger than that, you prob don't wanna be doing it by hand!

Check out the Big Haul Winch. Has a good rep, won 4WD monthly hand winch comparo and is a sh!t load lighter the the Tirfor styles.

Shop around and should be able to get this winch and a snatch block for just over $400 the pair.

Hey jockey. I deal with the mob that bring the winches into the country. I was going to get the 3 ton model untill i found out it only came with a 10m length of cable. The VRW1500 comes with 20m of cable which if used with a snatch block (also avable from the same mob and half the price of an ARB one) would probly be more versatile. Here are the specs of these winches-

Size HSS-1.5 HSS-3
Capacity t 1.5 3
Fullloadingforce Kgf 45 45
Handletravelling mm 50 25-30
Ropelength m 20 10
Ropelength m Φ9.2(4×15) Φ13.5(4×19)
Overallsize mm 460×142×275 547×155×287
N.W Kg/pc 9.5 14.5

Hope this info helps and let me know if you need any more info.
