what exhaust?
what snorkel
what airbox/filter setup.
something is suppressing the noise.
an exhaust with a good muffler will kill most of it.
and if the airbox/filter has a few bends you wont get much induction noise either...

I put a straight through 3 inch muffler on my 75 (2H-T) and the bastard sounded like a stocko. Consequentially it came straight back out. IMO you'll also get a bigger whistle with a non-wastegated turbo too as with an internally gated turbo, the 'wasted' exhaust drowns out the sound of the turbine to a degree.

Is the noise the turbo makes really that important ? Surely the performance of the engine/turbo is the priority ?

i would agree with you 5inch gq, but mine whistles so well.
internally gated turbo, 3 inch dump pipe, ending at the gearbox crossmember

I've got an internally gated GU (hitachi) turbo with a proper 3" dump and a full length 3" system with a decent size straight through muffler on my GQ LWB and can still hear the whistle, personally I could take it or leave it.
My 2c.......

A decent size dump (3"), full 3" system and no muffler's or resonators should get you some good whistle, if not, then (as said) something is restricting the flow.
I'm like 5inch - the whistle doesn't fuss me too much, as long as the bloody thing goes when it matters.

You could put an old roof rack on it off a Morry Minor - they used to whistle in the wind

had an arguement with some douche trying to tell me I had a blowoff valve on my TD42 and that was causing the whistle. No amount of explaining could change opinion.
If you have a wagon you just don't want it to drone at 80-100, or that is irritating for long trips.
Did that once on a Disco - worst decision ever made
