Hilux springs

G'day -

I am thinking about using front hilux leaf springs under my zook, and something a bloke said had me wondering...

He said that lux leaf springs changed compound around 96 or so, and were now stiffer.

I am after 2 inch lifted springs, so that counts out Toyota ones I guess, is what he said correct about any others that you know of?

in 1996 the hiluxes went to (or started going to) IFS, with longer rear springs so mo there would not be anything to worry about with the front springs because they no longer had leaves.

hilux front springs are a long spring to put in the front of a zook, my mate just recently put his rears in the front and hilux fronts in the rear (suzi rears are about half way from suzi fronts to hilux fronts) and it was good

i wouldnt worry about springs too much, just go to the wreckers and get some packs, play with leaves untill the ride and spring rate is nice and then go get them re-set to get the height you want.

I am just using the lux fronts for the rears in my zook, and the zook rears up front.
I also want to keep everything simple so that I can buy new parts off the shelf, rather than making home brew spring packs.

Thanks for the info.

i can understand not wanting to make your own spring packs, but honestly you will not get the same wheel travel out of stock springs, and remember, the springs are designed to hold up an engine so they are too stiff for the rear of the zook.

also say you do go all home brew, the worst that can happen is you fully bend a spring pack, put a trac bar in and this will not happen, the only thing that will happen is you will snap a main leaf, but seriously, how often does that happen, and if it does just source a new one and put it in your pack.
