Brand new one from Suzi Auto at Springwood cost me just under $200 about 8 months ago (from memory). Thats the EFI Vit starter.

Did you get free lube with that? Mabey a little spit? Or was it just a strate up fisting? Was that including GST or did they go elbow deep?
I get reco ones for $120 including. The vitara starter motor is exactly the same as a Mitsu express van only differance is the nose cone. When they "reco" them these days the take the nose cone off take the 8 tooth gear off the shaft toss out the left overs and put it back together with the mitsu parts that cost next to nothing. The parts all up cost them around $60-$80 and about 10 mins topps to put together.

Mate, with a response like that I would gladly pay the same again for a starter motor without the attitude.

No attitude just shock as to what people will pay to get simple things done. Prices are high for things like that because people just say OK to the first price they are quoted. Mate $330 you were ripped off. It takes all of 5 mins to get a starter out of a suzuki and I bet they charged you for a hour. That starter NEW at holesale is around $110. To rebuild it as long as the nose cone is ok is around $80 and 10 mins. 6 of one half dozen of the other you got ripped off.
Before I started working for Snap-On I was a Service manager for a Volkswagen dealer here in sydney and people like your self get ripped off all the time. It sickens me thats why I quit. The mark up on parts is normaly between 80 and 200%
Oh and read you own sig line you love attitude from the sounds of it....
