Is this hard to do? do they look OK -width, protrusion etc?

Have found a winchbar at a fair price.

Pretty sure the chassis rail spacing is slightly different - enough to be too much of a PITA to attempt doing it. What the reason you want to do it for? (money etc.?)

Thanks blokes just edited my post a little.

yeah it seem a good price, I can be handy with a welder when I have to but wouldn't buy if I need to cut and shut or the like.

yeah trolled 500 posts so far in search, still at it, i came across that post but it didn't help, no info as to why not, just personal opinion.

someone has got to have tried it, fairly capable bunch here so starting to wonder why not...... :)

I give up already..doesn't seem to be the done thing, dislike the GQ bullbars shape but not interested enough to build myself one, thought this one might tick a box or two...no problems will keep thinking toward my front locker.

if anyone lives near townsville and is fast.

It should be able to be done if you can get a measurement of the chassis rails. The main thing would be the shape of the grill on each model. The GU is much more rounded than the GQ but that may be able to be cut out of the wings. You really need to go to a wreckers or a car yard and measure the two chassis and get a measurement of where the grill sits in relation to the front of the chassis rails so you understand the shape and how it affects the shape of the bull bar. The last thing is that the GU bar won't allow visibility of the park and indicator lights properly on the GQ as they are much more rounded. I think the mounts would be the least of your problems.

I have got a little further along tape measure in hand, for anyone who might consider the idea in the future....a GU bar will not fit because the distance from the top of the Bullbar plate work to the underside of the tube is near 80mm short. This leaves the tube covering near 1/3 of the top of the GQ headlight, apart from that the rest is pretty close..all things considered and if one is handy.

This to me at least is a deal killer unless cutting the side loops away.

cheers for the replys.

PS has anyone got a picture of the ironman protector bullbar actually fitted to the front of a GQ?, would love to see it, ironman it seems doesn't consider a potential buyer would like to see the bar fitted to the car it's sold to fit :silly:

I did fit a GU bullbar to a GQ shorty a few years ago. Looked pretty crap and couldn't really be modified propertly to fit, as the front of the 2 models are such different shapes. GU is slightly rounded whille the GQ is more flat. It was a TJM bar I think from memory. But I did it

Thats pretty modified though. They only used the center cradle and the top rails from the original bar. The wings are completely custom made though. Just shows what is needed to get one to fit properly. Same chassis mounts but completely different shaped bodies.

Sim great pics thanks! now the situation does make better sense, in that pic the top plate of the bullbar is raised something like 100mm above where the GQ bullbar would sit so it now covers much of the grill to the very bottom line of the headlights and here is where the problem with the wings start.

i actually bought that bar in my link above, it's drop dead pretty, lots of 2 pac and very well sprayed...I cannot bring myself to cut it up or even do a dry run at fitting just incase i scratch it's flawless finish....so I have it in the paper for sale at a couple hundred extra to cover my troubles.

I think a Taylor made bar is in order, sort of guessed all those experienced here where not crazy enough to bother with this idea for a reason, just needed to know what the reason was all about proper.

I rang ironman and they sent me a pic of a GQ with their protector bar fitted, couldn't find one anywhere else on the net, think I will go with one of these, will post the pic for those interested.

cheers

Here is the Ironman protector bar actually fitted to a GQ, note how low it sits compared to the pics above:

Anyone think it looks good? is there a better looking fairly typical bar out there for GQs? This one is almost $1600 unfitted sourced locally.

I doubt that Ironman would that strong compared to other bars on the market, if I was in the market for new bar Millweld would be my option.

Sim

I like that bar!, although is it strictly illegal?

The fairlead protrusion , the eye bolts, the lack of guard over tyres.

If it is legal it would be a nice bar to own.

TN if it's in the way :finger:
