Re: Intercooling a td42 on the cheap
Hey bud i put a front mount intercooler on my gu ute for under $500.
600x300x76mm cooler was $140 off ebay, silicone bends were $20 each and i just got some stainless steel pipe from a wrecking yard, it was a bit scratched up so it was cheap. It was all made with 2 1/2 inch piping and bends.
If you wanted to go top mount it would be even cheaper because you wouldnt need as many silicone bends or pipe.
There is a few pics and a write up of how to do it over on the patrol forum in the DIY section of a gq that the owner intercooled
Hope this helps ya,
Mitch.

Re: Intercooling a td42 on the cheap
I made this mysalf, it was $100 for the cooler (450x300x75) new/second hand. Fitted it all mysalf and got the cooler pipes made at an exhaust shop who ripped me off and did a crap job, cost $400 and that finished it off.
Re: Intercooling a td42 on the cheap
I was looking down this path myself and was wondering have you guys (that have installed front mount IC) noticed a bit of lag at all, take a little longer to hit full boost? Also did you notice much of an increase in engine temps?
Any information greatly appreciated
Luke.

That intercooler I fitted made no differance at all to lag in any way. As for engine temps made a slight increase but bugger all. depends on how good your cooling system is to.
