Broken anti wrap bar

As the title suggests I recently snapped my sky manufactoring anti wrap bar in half. It snapped the outer tube of the twist and slid. Just wondering if anyones had similar issues or has suggestion how to make it stronger or improve the design??

Thanks

I think everyone who's ever had an anti wrap bar on a SPOA has had similar dramas lol. Go back to SPUA :finger:

Which is why your car has been linked for years.

Traction bar design is very difficult to get right. It's easy to design a bar that stops axlewrap, it's very hard to design a bar that doesn't bind the suspension at some point. The fact your bar broke is indicative that there's some very serious stresses working through it. The sky design is sound - It's a variation of the Sam's offroad design that's been around for years, however, it will always be a compromised solution because a sierra is a very short wheelbase car, and the axle path for a leaf sprung car is very complex and can't be taken into account by a bar, so inevitably, at some point the springs are being bound up by the bar.

The quick fix is to sleeve the outer tube with something heavier.

A "design improvement" would involve a lot of work to that slide/slip joint to take bind out of it.

Steve.

Which was exactly my point.

Spua can also suffer severe axle wrap, but it only appears with much lower spring rates than with spoa

Pfftt thats no fun...

I used a combination of Cruiser and Patrol Panhard bars to make my second anti wrap bar, the first one the thread in the sleeve to the Rose joint ripped out and the bar ended up being bent up and wrapped around my diff.

Then again maybe your lucky it broke there instead of tearing your diff housing open, making it harder. I went for a fairly decent rose joint this time round and figured its the weakest point I also got a strap made up to which will stop the bar falling away if the rose joint fails as well.

The Unit has already been repaired ....by his future father inlaw ;) of whom works where I do.

I think there is just a few minor mods and it will bolted back under his Spook
