Disco 2 - CDL

I have been reading some of the olders posts and and seems some ser 2 discos around 2000 to 2002 did not have a centre diff lock.

Are they still a full 4x4 ie via a viscous centre diff?

Going to test drive an '02 model tomorrow... It has the dual head/driving lights rather than the rectgangular headlights. Is there anything to watchout for in these models?

All reports on the fuel economy seem to be outstanding.

The late 01 until the MY03 facelift were the ones missing the CDL mechanism. The 99 though early 01 all had CDL, but no lever to activate it - this is an easy retrofit.

All Disco2's are constant 4x4 via a open centre diff in the LT230 transfer case.

The 02's should be rectangular headlights. The duel headlights came out in MY03, I guess thats not to say the late MY02.5 were not facelifted??????

Don't forget it is possible to fit the later headlights to earlier cars.... And if thats the case, check the chassis rails. A mate of mine bought a 2001 model with late lights, knowing that it had been through a VIV after being written off. When I looked at the thing, he'd missed the fact that both chassis rails look like bananas, and the repair on the inner guards was ordinary to be generous. I don't know why he didn't go back to the person who sold it to him, and demand his money back on the grounds that the VIV inspection has obviously been done for a slab of beer and with a blindfold....

Yeah! Funnily enough I typed that out re the headlights and then deleted it thinking what are the odds, but a very good point.

Or another Disco2 LT230.

Doesn't have to be out of a Disco 2, it is possible to swap just the centre diff unit from an disco 1 unit into a Disco 2. Did this very conversion on my old mans D2, basically just swapped the noses on the transfer case.
