hey there, i recently picked up a vitara that had been crashed but not written off for a $1000
And im planning on doing the 1.6 into my sierra, from what i have gatherd you need a 1 inch body lift. which i have, you need an adapter kit.
but what about the wiring loom. do you use the sierra one or the vitara one?
also how long roughly does the conversion take.? cheers

Why not use the trans from the vitara? You wont need a plate... Save the money on the plate and make the passanger side mount your self. If its a auto all you need to do is widen your trans tunnel. take off the transfer and use your old jack shaft.
I am sorry for being harsh but you are asking some fairly ummmmm stupid questions. Honestly think about what your asking. Why would you need the engine wiring loom out of the sierra (a carby) to run the 1.6 vitara (1.6 efi)engine?
Its good that you got the entire set up cheap but be sure you have some one around that knows what there doing and do a lot of reading before you just jump in.
As for time it takes. Mickeal (zooktastic) and I started at 12:30 today and we stopped at 2am. We are putting a dizy balino 1.6 in his. So far we have the engine in, I made the adaptor plate made and new motor mount. We swopped the cam for the angle drive modified the rear coolant outlet. We have the balino wiring loom all apart and ready for chopping.
In short we have it all 100% ready for the wiring and a few missing coolant hoses.
I have done this conversion a few times now and If you know what your doing it can be done in a weekend. But from the sounds of your questions I think we will be answering your questions for the next few weeks.
My suggestion is to get the engine in and all the coolant lines plumbed in then have a auto elect guy come out and do the wiring for you.
Finding some one in your area with it done already will help to. Look and take pictures.

yes your right it is a stupid question. hahaha
the vitara is a manual. so it will bolt straight up or will i have to fab up some mounts?
yeah the wiring loom is the hing that is confusing me.

Yes, you will need to deal with a mount. For $200 you could buy BenT's kit which deals with that and if you spend a few hundred on ebay you can get a loom already done for you if you are not that capable.

Get hold of Ben and see if he will provide just the bits you need. You can use the Vit gearbox. Keep the section between the Vit gearbox and the t-case and get a bearing (180B rear wheel bearing I think
) and a seal and you will need to modify the mount.

go with a bent kit. yeh it sounds easy using the vit gearbox but the transmission tunnel, cross member and gearbox mounts all need modding and the gearbox is about a foot longer than the sierra box so a shorter jack shaft will need to be made and you may have alignment issues. i have used a adapter in a couple of cars and i have the vit box in my current/ongoing build. the adapter to me, is by far the better option.

Since when has 80mm been a foot?
I agree about the need to alignment, a custom jackshaft, and tunnel mods, but the vitara gearbox is superior, as is the clutch - a major advantage of using the vitara gearbox.

I agree with Steve, the Vit clutch and gearbox are gar better options .. Keeping a 1.3 clutch alive and well behind a 1.6 (espeically if your gearing is not spot on) can be difficult.
You also get to keep the bigger heavier 1.6 flywheel.

how hard is it to mount the vit box though?
