Hey lads, i know this has probly been asked a few time but just want to know whats the way to go with putting a turbo on my 91 GQ petty, its got 220 on the clock, runs on pet/gas but the carb has crapped its self :bad-words: so im doin away with the petrol and goin straight gas, i know to use the TD42 exhaust manifold, throttle body off a xf ford, and thinking of just going the T28 garret turbo with T3 flange to bolt straight on the manifold, just not really sure with the ignition set up or the gas regulater, any help ould be great, cheers

What are you not sure about with the ignition and what did you mean by gas regulator? Personally i think a t28 is too small for a 4.2 litre it will run out of puff to quickly.

Sorry mate was thinking the converter/gas carby, what type to use, one that can handle positive pressure i take it, as for ignition meanin spark delivery, coil ect, ive read a little on the pertronix igniter to replace the points, ok out with the T28 what would u consider? im not looking for big numbers at the wheels nor big psi just want a little more power and not wanting to spend a whole deal, mostly sand playing also is a daily driver, thanks for posting guys, appreciate it...

Hi Scottie
I run a Impco Etype converter and a impco 225 mixer . ignition you realy need to put electronic module in dizzy and then use it to switch a high output ignition module eg I.C.E. or MSD. Turbo I have a T4 can't remember turbine or housing size. Do it right don't cut to many corners or it will bit you in the ass. done right and you will love it. good luck Steve

arnt they notorious for cracking the exhaust ports when on gas?
mine is and was welded at some stage!
after some research found that they do this when on lpg due to hotter exhaust temps!

The petronix will not provide enough spark for a turbo motor. It will get blown out by the boost presure.

Your ignition will be a high priority as turbo and non turbo need different ignition curves.

ie. Non turbo - as your revs increase you need more ignition advance (contrifugal advance using springs and weights)

Turbo - as your revs increase so does the amount of positive pressure created by the turbo which increases compression. More compression requires the ignition to retard (or less advance)

If you don't get this right your motor will detonate and not last long

Look for a boost retard device and a high output ignition module
