GQ TD42 Oil pressure questions

Hey guys,

I just got a Turbo/Gas TD42 and have a question in regards to a cold startup and oil pressure.

When she is cold, you can really hear the tappets/valve assembly rattling about. After a couple of kilometers the noise dies down and she sounds perfect.

Oil level is fine.

Q. Is this a normal noise that I should get used to?
Q. Is this a sign the oil pump is due (how many K's are the pumps good for btw - shes done 335000)
Q. It's running a turbo and gas injection, with the turbo should I put more oil in than the dipstick says to take into account the pluming (I don't think so but asking)
Q. Does anyone have a service schedule for the GQ, eg how many K's is the water pump good for etc?
Q. Is there a specification on any adjustments in the head to make?

Regards,
Thomas

Q. Does anyone have a service schedule for the GQ, eg how many K's is the water pump good for etc? have you ever changed it ? you could always take it off to check the impeler

Yeah, check your valve clearances.

Does the oil pressure warning light (on the dash) turn off soon after start up?

I have the same set up on my Gq.

Turn the gas off untill warmed up it will not sound as bad. Its a diesel knock when its cold. You should only turn gas on when car is warmed up.

Mine does something similar. Oil pressure light turns off within two seconds after a cold start-up.

I don't have a gas setup. I will check valve clearances.

Valve clearances for sure.
I would also check that the rockers arent worn on the tappet pad ( where it contacts the valve stem) and the shaft bearing ( you can feel this without dismantling).

Yep, gas is off when starting, then on.

Will check the clearances - Thanks for the replies.

if your tappets quieten down once the motor has warmed up then i would say they are fine , most motors are a bit noisey when cold and only come into spec when at operating temp , id say leave them and only adjust if it is noisey at running temp
