I picked up a 1982 2 door rangie a few months ago. She's ok (Except for the standard 3.5L). From what i know the old girl wasn't really used at all the last few years, and definetly not for off roading. As for the previous owners before the last... No idea!!
I just got her re-registered and subsequently have started driving it around and lately she keeps popping out of hi range. (mostly when it happens it's between gear changes, not all the time, but enought to get anoyying having to stop and put it back in)
Any ideas or options as to what it could be.... other than a new trasfer case?? (which it seems to be at this point)
btw, she's stock as a rock if that makes a diffrence.
Any help would be awesome!!!

the brass shim thingys in your intermediate gear set in the transcase are worn, will need replacing, or even better replace the whole lot with a taper roller bearing kit if you can find one

Damien may well be right but the LT95 transfer case is sensitive to hi/lo range adjustment - both in the linkages or in the fork mechanism in the top of the transfer case. This can result in the appearance that you are in high range etc but when load on thegtransfer case changes it pops out of gear - this is because it was not fully locked in (at the transfer case) in the first case. So check the actual linkages. After that if no better - take the top plate off the tfr case and adjust the fork on the cross bar that is operated by the linkages. Also when you change Hi/Lo as soon as you start moving just double check that the lever and tfr is locked in.
If this fails - then you need to look at what Damien has suggested.
I had the problems you described and found I had a combination of linkages and fork adjustment and mine is now OK.
