Headlights not working 80 series

Hi,

I have a headlight issue. The lights (low and high beam) flickered on and off about 4 or 5 times and are now not going at all.

The day this happened I had just replaced the Harmonic balancer and obvisouly had all the lights/grill out to do this. My first thought was that an earth or something must have come loose, but I cant find a problem and it doesnt seem to be related to this work.

I don't have any power at the light fuses in the fuse box in the engine bay.

I have parkers/stop/tail/indicators and "dome" dash etc. No other problems at all.

Where is the factory relay for the headligts? The problem must be before the fuses. What about the stalk itself?

Im a bit lost on this one. Has anyone had such an issue before?

Thanks for the help.

The relay turned out to be faulty - although it was still closing and opening. The plastic around the power in spade was melted.

Does anyone know what these factory relays are rated at? Must be reasonable to run twin headlights. Toyota couldnt tell me.

If you run high powered globes in them the plugs can melt from the heat from globes and the wires not being big enough. I've put 130/100 and 135watt globes in and as yet haven't killed anything but know a mate who was having the lights go out on him here and there because of the relays going. I'm looking at getting ceramic plugs where the heat is and upgrading the wires to a larger size. But i'm up in the air after getting some HID's for my spotties as they make the headlights look yellow and getting the whole lot changed over to HID. My old super oscars are brilliant with 55w HID's in em even with faded reflectors and cloudy lenses.
