80 series door trim letting in rain water

Hey Guys,

I recently got a roof rack fitted by a 4x4 store. With the recent rains, I have discovered rain water in my door sills (about 10 litres of it). :bad-words: The car didn't let in rain water before the roof rack.

I went back to the 4x4 store and told them that when they fitted the roof rack, that they damaged the door trim and therefore allowing rain water to get in my door sills. They said that most 80's do that and it wasn't result of the roof rack fitted. They said that most 80 owners remove the bung plug or puncture a hole in it so the water can just drain out after each rain.

My argument is that my 80 didn't do that before the roof rack and they are trying to tell me that it's the car fault. :agrue:

Do I have a leg to stand on to argue with them?
Do you 80 owners have the same problem with your door trim?
Is the only way to fix this is to swallow my pride and have new door trim fitted (to my expense)?

Thanks in advance.

The only leakage i've seen as common on the 80s is around the windscreen, resulting in a drip on the knee, and sometimes in the rear quarters, the sliding windows let in water.

I suppose it's possible the roof rack fitting the gutters causes water to run down towards the door seals, rather then going down the back of the wagon via the gutter. If that's the case there's not much you can do, except replace the door seals or the stores method of removing the bung.

How does the water get in the top of the windscreen? I have this problem after alot of rain and i get drips in my lap on cornering. Windscreen bloke i got stuck into because i thought they didn't put the goo in reckons it gets in along the roof gutters.
