the main ones i can think of are;
injector pump and the injectors themselves
i had my pump overhauled about 3 weeks ago, costed just under $1000.

cheers Sam

If you're talking about the "5L" 3 ltr non - turbo then yes you will get high kms out of them if driven within their limits and serviced regularly and looked after. I have the 3L 2.8 ltr, done 311,000 and I would have every confidence of it getting to 400,000, still feels fine. If you are buying one with 180-250,000 and it's been looked after, then it should give you another 5 yrs / 100,000 km at least. I bought mine with 174K on it, change oil and filter every 5K, timing belt every 100K and I recently put some new injectors in it, just for peace of mind, not because of heaps of smoke or poor running or anything. Have had valve clearance check done a couple of times, first time no. 4 exhaust was a bit tight, the rest were ok, another check a yr later and nothing had changed. The only major surgery on it has been refitting of a new crank pulley keyway as I left the bolt too loose which allowed the pulley to wobble around and flog the key out.

But really, the same rule of getting high kms from looking after it would apply to just about every engine ever made.

The only hassle with these L series motors is they are an old design now and without turbo they are bloody slow and not very powerful. But if you can put up with holding up the traffic behind you and having to move into the truck lane at the 1st sight of a hill on a highway, then you'll be ok.

Just have a look at some ads online and see what sort of kms some of the old ones have done.

like 904runa said,
keep servicing every 5k, and it'll last forever,
and mine struggles on hills aswell haha
but mate, topgear did a test on a late 80's lux where they put it ontop of a building and blew it up, let a tide come in on it and all sorts of evil things haha, but the thing still went with only the tools in the toolkit and some wd40. so they will go and go and go haha,

really just a bit underpowered, but i have no problem with that haha
