hey guys. i have a 1991 model sierra soft top. its got 1 inch body lift and 2 inch springs. stock 1.3 (soon to be 1.6 efi) and 31inch silverstones.
i wanna go bigger with the tyres i want to start running 33s but im unsure of the clearance, do i have enough alread or do i need more. i have read that alot of people go with the spoa but i dont wanna do that to my truck. also how are they on the road with the bigger tires? i want this to be my daily driver.
cheers

Good Luck keeping it a daily driver. You will need an inch or 2 extra clearance, and lower your bumpstops 2-3 inches. You will need to change the gearing, transfer gears and or diff gears, I would look into power steer and cromo front axles as well especially if you are locked in the front. Look at upgrading your brakes too.

cheers.
yeah im getting 6.5:1 transfer gears. and ill make drop shackles and extra inch body lift. i also have a vitara power steer so that will solve that problem.
why will it be no good as a daily?

I have fitted 33" simex's with 2" springs, 2" shackles and 2" body lift, plus
a heap of inner guard massaging and 2" wheel spacers
This was a tight fit but if you are prepared to guard chop then you may get away with less lift.

if you want 33's and a daily driver you will need diff gears or you will chew thru clutches. x-fer gears will not change your high range gearing. i have got 34's (used to have 33's) and 6.5 x-fer and a 1.6 injected and it is a POS when in high range. as for clearance i have got spoa so i cant help you there.

Mate you need to get on auszookers and look up a user named bluesuzy he is on here but his build thread is on there. He has by far the best set up SWB sierra that is SPUA and 33s. Has plenty of travel and it is very good in the bush. He spent about 3 months perfecting his set up and it works great.

Transfer gears will change your high range as well as low range. The 6.5s give a 20% reduction in high.

More the legalities then anything else unless you plan on getting it engineered, personally 3 inch and 31's is about the biggest you can go and keep it in proportion, anything over that and it starts becoming noticable that stuff has been done. Bearings, clutch, brakes and motor issues may become more common if you are doing high k's and high speeds.

Dominator-your lucky your got the truck you have if you hate it in high range as it is allready
it has 3.9 centres from NT aswell as the 20% (ish) reduction in the case.
Original poster,i have had a few mates basically daily there zuks on 33s but have all had spoa.31s are enough i believe but as Dave said check out Bluesuzy, its a nice low truck on 33s and im sure very capable

I would definately spend my $$$ on diff lock before bigger rubber .. a 33's spinning mid air gets no more grip than a 29 ..
