Looking for a 75 series ute..and was looking for any photos of people who have there's setup for camping in the back etc...would also like it to be awesome offroad so any photos would be awesome...thanks

well its not a 75 series its an 80 series (with hilux cab) but the back tray section can be applied to any ute really
i made it from aluminum sheet of varying thicknesses ie external 6mm internal 2mm with internal box section frame with a standard fiberglass canopy on top

checklist was

hard top for better dust and water sealing also can be slept in a without people knowing you are inside (rest stop or carpark camping)
full size double bed ( that did not have to be cleared at night) to hop in
full vision out the back ( windows not bulkheads)
enough storage for tools spares etc under tray not in camper (incase camper is removed) flatbed mode
aprox 280 ltrs of fuel no jerrys alowed
fridge
at least 30 ltrs of drinking water
kitchen easily accessed from foot path without unpacking anything
has to be very strong and light
can be removed fully packed so ready to go in 15 mins

yes very nice setup, until i can fab like you i am sleeping on the ground in a swag

just a thought why a 75 why not a 80 just remove all rear seats throw in a matress and your done

Tried that, not much fun. I built drawer slides to the same height as the rear seats when folded down with a peace of timber stuck to the end of the matress to fill the space between head rests. Much better now and storage aswell. Removing the seats leaves a huge gap in the floor.

80 series are a great truck i have 2
but ..............
to much soft shiny stuff to bend lots of doors windows etc
i endup getting worried about bending stuff
then run into stuff instead of driving like a lunatic and not hitting anything
i know it makes no sense buts that is how it rolls

I went over seas for 2 years took the truck with me plus personal effects etc and a heap of aluminium i made a lot of the truck while i was out there
i got it bit stir crazy on such a small island so started to ride my mountain bike around eventually working out the right way to get the car up to the northern islands
it can only be done a couple of days per month at the full moon tide and you must leave at exactly the right time
basically the lagoon empties and is only 300 mm deep in some places
i had a couple of close calls ie getting bogged and going at the wrong tide and once on the way home the water was up to the bonnet not cool gave it a big bath after with fresh water
with all this beach driving the only thing that suffered was the brake discs the completely fell apart rusting all the cooling fins from inside them

just wondering how long it took from start to finnish and how much in extimated prices to make the whole tray.

i never ever added upthe cost because it was exactly what i wanted
i think the bill for the aluminum was about $ 2200
their are a lot of other fittings etc
i already owned the fiberglass canopy from my old truck
i would guess about 2000 more in things so total about $4200
the whole truck took about 2 years to complete to the stage it is at now though it was driving after one year
the rear was not complete ie no draw or top section of tray
many hrs went into the build\also lots of thought to maximise space
the radiator is also mounted under the tray behind the gills on the left side infront of the wheel so this made things more complicated with ducting and getting enough airflow etc if you wernt doing that it would be easier
if i were just building the tray i probably could have done it in 9 months
