Was the old warn winch called a thomas?

Post by steveoo »

I have seen for sale on the internet a warn highmount for sale. but in the picture the control solanoied pack it saids thomas. would this just be a old school warn highmount? It looks fairly old. Would this fine for a rebuild?

thanks

Thomas is another brand of winch. It might just be that the solenoids have been replaced with Thomas solenoids somewhere along the line.

BTW the first WARN winches were made by Belleview around the 60's no fixed brake, free spool really the first of em all
Lockers or Knockers ,both will make for fun.

A mate changed his Thomas to highmount.
He called the guy at Thomas and its done pretty often.

By highmount we are talking motor position and not 8274

The thomas winchs look quite differnt to the warn ones so you should be able to tell if the winch itself is a warn or not from the picture.

solenoids are often replaced along the line, its nothing to worry about, but i would expect the thomas solenoids will be quite old.

Many people swap their solenoids over to the tigers waterproof ones when they get the chance now.
