iv got to the stage of choosing wich intercooler to run there are so many types and brands to choose from like air to air water to air air to air with a thermo fan .which one would be best and if any one has info or has one and could tell me some good info on wich one to get would be a bargain i do not wanna spend over 1500 cheerz juz and iv herd water to air or that glyco set up is good for 4byn as there is sometimes no speed for wind flow for front mount coolers

I ran a 10x6 PWR barrel cooler on the GU for around 8 months and have just swapped it off and put on a top mount, again PWR 500x300mm core.
I went away from the w2a setup because there is just that extra bit of complexity that was giving me the shits, and ultimately it wasn't worth all the hassle and to do correctly takes up a lot of engine bay space that I don't have.
Top mount IC isn't the most technically advanced option, and does have some drawbacks, but for the touring and off-road work I do suits my needs the best.
If you want to run the PWR barrel cooler I have it, and all the plumbing in the shed for the right price.

My water to air kit just arrived from the states. I will take photos once it is fitted. What fluid is best to use for it.

Cris,
Just use your normal anti-freeze, I also used my radiator overflow bottle as well.
There are high performance coolant products out there like
http://www.engineice.cc/ and I think Rocket Industries sell a product called "50 Degrees Below" but I cannot find it on their web site at the moment. These products boast a 50oF or (10oC) reduction in radiator temperatures, but for the cost I couldn't justify it for that little improvement, which as the a2w cooler should be at much lower temperatures wouldn't even be as high as 10oC.
If you are doing a a2w it is important to have an expansion tank, and an overflow tank. These didn't come with the PWR kit and the system is useless without them. Also take care as to where you run the hoses and place the pump, as I placed mine out of the way, but they collected a lot of air pockets which ultimately killed the pump. I didn't get around to putting in an expansion tank/reservoir though which would deal with this to some degree. But shortest path is the best idea and not going to be to hard in a comp vehicle, with all the crap under the bonnet of the GU this was not a very "straight path".

I went with the 350 hp kit but swapped from type 9 to type 16 intercooler also got the remote filler and hoses. I have a tank already. This should be good enough for family GU wagon running low boost.

I ended up getting the type 10 a custom rad 600x303x30mm core size, after the set up was finshed i have droped 150deg off the pyro after the turbo.

I know even after a really hard run pushing it for 30-45min the core is cold to touch, i didn't think it would work that well.

im running a laminova intercooler, the EGT change was pretty massive, on the highway at cruise a change of 50 to 70 degrees, down to 230.
dunno what i dropped at full noise, but i went a full turn on the pump and its still cooler than it was.
talk to matt mcinnes on here about one, integrated into the manifold, its a great easy to use setup. cant suggest it enough
just as a point of note, why are people running antifreeze in their intercoolers?
anything you add to water reduces its heat transfer abilities, your engine only has corrosion inhibitor cause it had to, i cant see the point in running anything but plain water in an intercooler?
cheers, andy

So it doesnt freeze would be one reason.

Anti Freeze Anti Boil is only required where you have an issue with freezing, Glycol is 30% less efficient than water at transferring heat, So if you can only run a suitable anti corrosion inhibitor.
A water wetter may aid heat transfer too.

Once in a rush to head off for the weekend, I topped up with straight water, so was running about 1/3 normal anti-freesze mixture. 45oC that day and I boiled the water out of the system towing the camper.

well your intercooler and heat exchanger arnt working properly, you need a bigger heat exchanger, theres no point having an intercooler running above 100 degrees.
alot of factory fitted water to air coolers do this under extreme conditions

Have to agree, The heat exchanger is too small for the intercooler. Diesels spend 80% of the time on boost Petrol 10%, most intercoolers heat exchangers are designed to cope with petrol.

With no load and probably next to no boost and fuel that would be expected

Does anyone know what kind of intake temps they are getting after fitting a intercooler? Be it w2a (frozen boost, laminova, etc) or a2a (top and front mount).
