Hey all i am after a newer motor (just passed 512k) for my pajero, my question is do i have to get the motor out of a pajero or can i pull it out of one of the many Mitsubishi's that utilised the 4g54, eg a magna or do i specifically need one form a pajero??

thanks in advance.

A Sigma or Scorpion motor would be simplest, but probably getting rare. At least it's north-south.

A Magna motor is east-west, but can be made to fit without much hassle (if you're only mildly capable). Have a dig around on sigma-galant.com, as they discuss it there a reasonable amount.

I'm waiting for somebody to drop in a 4G64 from a Triton or Express van. It's supposed to be a very similar size and simple to make fit, but "simple" is a relative term. EFI, 16valve, more power with similar torque, reportedly significantly better economy. Do us all a favour, and report back.

I took your advice Scott and signed up to sigma-galant and i can tell you they are one helpful bunch of fellas, this is the breakdown as they have told me:

The motors (astron II) in the pajero's are wideblock 2.6 where as the magna's use what they call a narrow block, so according to the helpful lads/ladies of sigma-galant the only cars you can easily get (to fit without modification) engines from for the pajero are:

1. Pajero's
2. Late model Sigmas
3. Late model scorpions

but they must be a manual as the auto versions also use the narrow block.

apparently the rest have to be modified to fit.

thanks for pointing me in the right direction Scott.
