I just picked up a cheap highmount. I have had a read over all of the different mods you can do to them but i cant how far i should do....
I am going to get drum wided, air free spool and bracing. Also will be putting on a 6hp motor, strengthen mainshaft kit.
Would else would people recommend?? All of this talk about the gigglepin is it worth it vs the cost?? or just get the flammin fab twin motor kit?? or dont bother?

If you are going to be doing comps, get onto wazza at flamin fab -

If your just bolting onto your car and being a weekend warrier, i would just leave it....for now.
Try it and see what you think of it standard.

If it's not for comp use I'd just rebuild, new bearings/seals/brake etc, brace it, pin the freespool and tap+cap the brakeshaft. Look at better solenoids, too (like an allbright). This should ensure it's reliability, if you then think you need more power, go for the 6hp.

As Dogbreath said, if its for just personal weekend warrior use, just do those things, if you are handy with the tools you will be able to do it all by-yourself so will cost next to nothing, if it is going to be for comp use and you end up running 24volt make sure you get the best solenoids around!!
and wire in a power kill switch between the power feed and motors, from personal experience i now know that this will save you alot of money!! haha

the XP motor (6hp ) is a straight swap. That and an Albright, along with decent wiring and internal/external switches are all I have on mine.

Be mindful that you may need to change the pinion gear on some of the older highmounts in order to fit the 6HP motor...
Cheers

Ah fair point, the straight swap is on the more recent ones.
