the old man has a 92? 2.6 efi and it was running fine then died.....it has been sitting around for 9 months so i was thinking that the fuel filter is clogged up from the old fuel. Does anyone have any ideas at all????

I am guessing here of course, but my old 92 Rodeo with the 4ZE1 2.6 was fine then one day it stopped running whilst I was picking up a wardrobe for my mum and wouldn't re-start.
Fuel pump died so I would suggest trying to see if you can hear it running (the pump), or pull off fuel line and see if you have any fuel pressure at all.
It is in the fuel tank so is a PITA to change but not too bad, and change filter while you are at it
