Outer Limits 4x4 Board

just installed a tough dog 4inch lift and 35 silverstone extremes.
Im a little worried about how it looks a little top heavy. I'm thinking I would like to make it a little more stable to suit my driving style.
I would like others advice, I was thinking of fitting my swaybars back in with disconects and maybe some wheel spacers.
will this sufice? other options I had in mind was 10inch rims. How do all the guys with big Gq's keep them upright?

As for sway bars, my car already has factory disconect lever. Is this enough and can the factory disconect be extended to suit 4inch lift? As i've only seen the supirior ones and they look like they wont work with facory set-up.
What are peoples thorts on wheel spacers?

Wheel spacers are illegal in QLD but so are 4"lifts, they put extra stress on the studs etc... A bigger offset rim will help for sure, bear in mind you are much more likely to pop a bead on a 10" rim over and 8" rim. Re-fit your swaybars or get a high quality one with disconnects. Are you in QLD or NSW or?

hey mate the general rule of thumb for a sturdy truck, is for every inch you go higher you want t go 3 inches wider. this is not always achieveable. yes swaybars will dramatically help, but you need some good quality disconnects, ive fitted some good quality snake racing disconnects, and they last and work really well if they are kept well lubed. hope this helps

definitely keep your rear swaybar at least. don't worry about disconnects for the rear either.

Is the factory disconnect enough or will an aftermarket disconect do a better job.
Was thinking superior eng 4inch disconects for front and make an extension for the rear and keep factory disconect.
Or should I just go all 4 superior?
If I was goin to use a wheel spacer, I'd only use the 6mm spacer from superior. Just for that little extra width.
I havnt driven it with the rear swaybar in yet as the 4wd shop that fitted my lift took it out instead of extending them.

The rear on a nissan has too much flex when compared to the front. The front is too stiff and forces the rear to do all the flexing. For a more stable truck that will still work nicely I'd get a good quality rear sway bar. It doesn't need to disconnect. It will force the front to work better and will give you much more stability. As for a front sway bar, I personally wouldn't bother but its up to you. I'd definately make sure it can be disconnected.

Going to a stronger or heavier set of rear coils will also force your front into flexing better.

But this will make it skittish on corregations and the like if its too stiff. Good for slow stuff but not for normal driving or faster stuff. A decent rear sway bar is a much better option. If you want really good response then a currie anti rock type bar is definately the better option but will require fab work and will cost more.

I put a set of rancho 9000's in my GQ with about 6" lift with 3" body lift. Just grab the adjuster dial and wind it all the way up to "slot car" for use on road. Less body roll than stock and no need for sway bars.

But doing this degrades your suspension compliance to gain less body roll. Not good if you have rough roads. It changes how your shocks react to the road surface and if you go over a rough surface (plenty around where I live) then the car will lose traction on the road and may cause more problems than having a bit of body roll. The car will effectively skid a lot sooner. If you have a properly set up suspension it will provide good grip on road (depending on tyres) and will still be compliant off road.

Making your springs or your shocks stiffer isn't the answer. Making your suspension work properly is.

And before you question me, I also have ranchos on my shorty.

Who Is making a good rear sway bar for a GQ? Can you get a bolt in replacement or will all of them require Fab work?

Find a stock one and make or buy extensions for it. I'd try it first, if you don't like it then consider going to a custom bar.

You'll get the swaybar for free, or next to nothing.

Make the extensions, pay someone to do it, or worst case scenario, buy some disconnects to suit the lift.

I have extended disconnects on mine but I leave them hooked up all the time.

I had a 4" lift + 2" BL and 33" tyres and it drove perfect on road with very little body roll (no sway bars fitted.
We used this vehicle on outback trips with corrugations as well as high country trips.

If your springs and shocks are matched right it should be fine.
Otherwise use your std rear sway bar and use extended linkages similar to these:

I am using GU swaybar in my SWB they bolt in.

ive got a two inch spring and 2inch body in my wagon running 36peeds i kept the standard rear and threw the front away and i am happy in the way it drives both off and on road. the best thing is it dosent cost anything it took about 15mins. oh and beed locks good luck
