Outer Limits 4x4 Board

I am currently considering getting new shocks for my 1991 model Suzuki Sierra and I was wandering if anybody had any good suggestions for the shock set-Up? I am replacing my stock ones because they are very close to being on their way out and need new ones... I am also going to give it a 2 inch lift anywhere in the next 2 or 3 months so would the new ones be able to withstand this as well?

If its only gonna be a few months you are best off waiting till you do the lift and do both at once. Chances are shocks to suit a 2 inch lift will be too long for a stock setup, and ones for a stock setup will be too short for a 2 inch lift.

Ok... Well what shocks would suit the 2 inch set-Up?

best if you buy a combo... most 2" lift KITS come with shocks desgined to suit the springs.

Commodor wagen rears and hiace fronts are a cheap set up for a 2" lift. But the others are spot on in saying most combos come with shocks to match.

If you looking for a cheap lift with good flex look at doing the cheap re-drill RUF with your old springs using 2" extended shackles in the front then get a set of 2" lifted springs for the rear loose the middle leaf, keep stock shackles in the rear. Run the shock compo above and it will get you just about anywere you need to go. If you know where to shop the complete job will cost you no more then $500.

Ohh yah that was on 31s with no body lift.

The reason for the mix of lifted and not lifted and long and short shackles is it makes it sit level. Keep the old rears your moving to the front full if you take leafs out they tend to bend up or snap.

The commodor wagen shocks (Gabriel 81340) you need are from the 2000ish
The Hiace shocks (Gabriel 81147) you need are from the front of a 1998ish some people use Hilux but they are shorter from memmory

Hmmm... Ok thanks... I was actually going to do a 2 inch lift at home without a kit... I am going to use a special type of steel piping for the body blocks but i cant remember what it is called... Lol my dad got it and he said that it is ridiculously strong... But is this a bad idea? I already have two inch shackles because my nrother never needed them... And I can get any type of individual shock for about $40... Is this a bad idea?

If you want lift and good onroad handling, 2" springs all round. No shackles. Shackles will make the flex/ride/etc worse than stock.

If you want flex, Longer springs allround. Rears up front, and longer springs in the back, with longer shackles.

From 2" lift to whatever leaf combo, you can run Commodore wagon rear shocks in the front, Hilux/hiace rear shocks in the rear. The front shocks may bottom out, easily fixed by a small bumpstop extension.

All installation is easily done at home.

Body blocks have to be solid. Alloy, or poly material is depending on state.

Sierra's are not easily homemade bodylifted as they run studs in the main body tub, not bolts right through.

Im doing my lift atm, For the shocks, as said before hiace/commodore shocks.. commodore wagon rears, P/N 81340 for the front end, and front hiace for the rear, P/N 81147, Those are for gabriels... $44.99 each.. Pick em up when supercheap or someone have a sale on. They will suit a 2inch lift... I picked up 2inch EFS comfort springs, all bushes and u bolts for $500 off ebay from "onlineautopart". And makeing shackles at work, 2inch longer than standard, what ever lift that works out to... There is kits on ebay that do everything, for around $600. But you really dont know what springs and shocks you are getting. They may be shit house ride, or shit house flex... Ive no experiance with RUF but you always hear good remarks about it...
