hi all, just after some info about the 40 series shorties.
i have a fj40 swb and im currently trying to fit a hard top that i bought off what i think was a bj40 swb.
the roof turns out to be about 50mm too short to fit......
i was under the assumption that the vehicles were the same size and just wondering if anyone can clear up this dilemma?
thanks

I put the hardtop of a 1982 BJ42 on my 1976 Fj40 and it fitted fine. Do you have the pieces Between the upper sides and the windscreen in.

Hi,
how is it too short? Ie what/where is it too short? Have you taken out the rollbar from the soft top? They usually sit pretty high up and would stop most hardtops from fitting

there is a diffrence in the roofs from the early style doors to the later style ...i have a 74 with an 84 roof and yes you are right they are to long
or the other way around in your case you can fix it buy moving thefront plate on thre roof ..as i had to swap myn from the old roof

the plate that goes across the wind screen i had to move it and swap the side rails that go across the door opening
what year is your 40 ?
also there is a small issue with the top front corner (hinge side)of the door some times it will catch on the bolt just need to reset the door back a little

When i was looking to buy a '74 model 40 without a roof, i was told the windscreen frame had to be changed to fit a later model hard top?
Can you confirm this.
Also someone mentioned the rear of the hardtops had different curves, but i don't think they do.

sorry but they filled you full of
the only diff in the screen frames is wipers and both windscreens glass fit both frames as long as you have the correct ruber for the glass
the other diff is the demist vent is a little diff
the side walls are the same fitting (curves)

Are you talking about the piece of sheet metal that sits up under the front edge of the gutter?
