I'm planning to do a 2" lift soon. My GLS is a tri pac, originally adjustable suspension. The shocks have been changed to standards in the past. Can rancho, tough dogs, konis etc be hooked up to the original adj. suspension, or are they special units? If specials are they much more expensive and was there much differecne between hard, med. and soft?
Also what the hell is sas?

Thanks

SAS = solid axle swap eg - to get rid of the IFS and replace with a live axle for better articulation / wheel travel.
The factory adjustable KYB shocks are electrically operated and are not compatible with the Rancho's which can use an in-cab air adjustable kit. The Tough Dogs haven't got an in-cab kit as yet but some say the Rancho in-cab kit may work with them.
I believe the Mitsu ones do work well but once they are worn you either replace with aftermarket shocks (and lose the Mitsu adjustable feature) or buy the KYB originals from Mitsu for something like $600 Ea

Thanks for that.
Bugger the Mitsubishis!! I like the idea of adjustable shocks, is there much difference between the rest? Also do you need an adjustable panhard rod with 2" to re-align the rear diff or is there no difference. Sorry for all the questions but I'm new to all this!
Are all spring brands the same or are some better than others, my mate sugested King springs.

You won't do much better than King springs.
Think carefully between linear or progressive rate rear coils, it all depends on what you want and do with your truck.
For a 2" lift I don't believe an adjustable panhard rod is really necesary and is probly overkill for that amount of lift heaps of guys have lifted Paj's 2" leaving the standard one on with no drama's.
The adjustable shocks available are the Rancho 9000X, Tough Dogs and now the TJM Series 2000 they are all 9 stage adjustable. The Koni's are 5 stage adjustable but you have to remove them to do it.

I'll have to ponder , Tough Dogs or Rancho's while I save my bickies. I didn't know TJM had adjustables.
Many thanks

Do you have salvage yards there? I'll bet the ones here wouldn't have a clue that the adj shocks are worth that much. They'd think they were the same as the $40 ones from the local pasrt store and let them go for real cheap.

Haven't done that myself, yet, but been thinking about it...

MontyMcV,
Not a bad idea, I hadn't thought of that. We call them wreckers out here. But to get second hand shocks in good condition I'd have to find an NL with adjustables. So the question is, did these models have adjustables and would they fit an NH?

I have the 3 way adjustable shockies in my toy, put a 2 inch spring lift in the back and have had no noticable problems with the shocks, cant tell you what there are excpt 14 months ago they were the ONLY spring in Alice Springs that would fit. MMMMMMMM great town to break down in............
