More boost = noisier engine
More boost = noisier engine
Since having the boost turned up & the pump tuned to suit the engine is a lot noisier than it used to be as in it now sounds lot more tappier. Is this normal or not?

Re: More boost = noisier engine
Cant see boost playing any part.
What was done in the tune, pump timing, injector pressures and extra fuel maybe responsible for the extra noise.

Re: More boost = noisier engine
not sure mate im not a diesel expert thats why i paid 1 to do the job. i fitted the turbo up myself then got it tuned here locally at11psi wasn't overly impressed with it after speaking to the mob i bought the setup off he said 11psi is nothing & 18 -20 would be much more benifit so i got them to tune it when i was up at lcmp last month, since then its noisier.tagz281 wrote:Cant see boost playing any part.

Re: More boost = noisier engine
Maybe a bit hard on the pump timing advance ? Is it like a pinging knock noise ?
Nup not telling
you'll have to find out yourself

Re: More boost = noisier engine
don't worry about it.... it is normal.
The noised you hear is the extra advance timing they have put in to the Pump.
It usually is heard when 'feathering' the accel pedal in the 'no load on engine' position ie coasting down a hill and matching the revs.
They are correct, 11 psi is very tame and as long as the engine is in good nick 15-20 psi is fine.
I have 6' of advance and heaps of boost,.... you get use to the noise.
good luck

Re: More boost = noisier engine
I wound up the fuel on mine recently, it was running 7-8psi so i gradually turned the fuel screw 3/4 of a turn clockwise. I got more power out of it and its a bit noisier as stated here but i only gained 1-2psi of boost?? Should i wind it up more or just take it to a diesel shop?

Re: More boost = noisier engine
Is the turbo wastegated? If so a boost controller will see the boost increase. Or just disconnect the wastegate altogether, it won't hurt a diesel unless you wind too much fuel into it. Keep a close eye on the pyro when testing between tunes. Both turbo diesels I've set up have been with non-wastegated turbos and boost was governed with your right foot.
Don't take life too seriously...it isn't permanent.
Re: More boost = noisier engine
Sorry for a hijack OP, but yeh Mav, its wastegated i will disconnect it and see what happens. I have a boost controller in cab but its not hooked up how do i set it up? Just PM me if ya can instead of the hijack, cheers mateBadMav wrote:Is the turbo wastegated? If so a boost controller will see the boost increase.
