HI All,

Would it be easier to do a SAS conversion instead on a 100HDFTE IFS model? I/m geussing it is around around half the price for the 1HDFTE conversion into a 105. SLEE Offroad in America have done one so it is possible.

Perhaps BUBS could chime in hear as he is does awsome SAS conversions on the latest hilux's

What do you all think

Cheers, Chris

there is variations in the chassis widths between the IFS and solid axle models of the 100 series so it'd require welding on both diff and chassis.
the biggest expense of doing the engine conversion is the engine and parts
it depends on how long it took a shop to do the conversion and engineer it.

Is it possible to get the ABS working if the SAS is done, obviously wheel speed sensors will have to be used some how.

What about using a patrol diff up front, they run ABS and are part time 4x4?

Don't shoot me down anyone, just thinking out loud as I am wondering which way to go too.

SAS vs engine swap??

SAS = full of custom parts, fabrication, welding etc, plus engineering, teething problems, unproven set up components etc = expensive $$$

engine conversion in 105 = all factory parts, 100% bolt in, recoupe some of the cost by selling the current engine, gearbox etc, 105 chassis and suspension is tried and tested technology (ie 80series plus 105 series so 20yrs plus) factory reliability, no engineering required.

It is a no brainer. A SAS would quite possibly cost more than the conversion to 1HD-FTE.

The arch in the chassis rail is much less in the 100 and the chassis is wider, i doubt you would have enough room to fit coils in the front like a 105, it could be done but you would run into packaging problems Coil overs might work tho.
On the other hand a fte is a bolt in swap depending on what gear box and motor your 105 has and what you want to put into it.

Personally the only time id consider SASing an ifs 100 is if it were a Sahara, GXV or Kakadu (because they cant be bought live axle) and even then id probably swap chassis out before id SAS it

That said go for it and post pics, it would be cool
